I find this story odd.

I was actually looking into the 3dtv's this weekend. Buggger all information anywhere about them in the UK so far. I am going to go to a big Comet store on the way home from work and see what they have on display.

I actually think Sky could steal a march on the PS3 (or any 3d enabled Blu-Ray player), they will have 3d channels (including sport) and presumably box office movies to rent as 3d.

While its cool that anyone who already owns a PS3 gets a 3D bluray upgrade, people that own a semi decent computer should be able to get a 3D bluray player much cheaper than PS3s 299.

Here is the cheapest legal option...if you dont mind doing illegal things its even cheaper.

Indeed, and I think Samsung (largest selling HDTV's) will bundle TV's with appropriate blu-ray players too.  As will LG and Sony probably.

Bestbuy in canada is already offering samsungs 3D stuff and its so bloody expensive.

40 inch 3D TV - 2499

3D bluray player - 399

2 sets of glasses + monsters vs aliens bundle - 449

I cant help but gloat and feel good about my purchase in 2008. I bought a 67 inch 3D capable LED based DLP TV for 2400. It supports everything...3d blurays (with 60 dollar bluray drive), Nvidia 3D vision (which cost me 200 bucks), and most likely the PS3... I've been enjoying 3D for over a year now and am doing it on a bigger screen for less money :)

Not to mention that my TV does all this with zero ghosting cause its DLP technology. I saw Sonys and Samsungs new 3D tvs and some ghosting is still present since LCDs have refresh rate to worry about.

good for your T.V. purchase.

thanks :)

I came to work this morning and after exchanging a few polite words with my senior manager after Easter break she told me that she is going to buy PS3 and 3D TV later this year. I was surprised as she is an elder lady and I would never expect her to be even slightly interested in consoles and 3D technology!

In fact 3D doesn't get too much media attention at these days but within few months we will hear and see much more. I hope that Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and Beowulf will be available on blu ray in 3D. These are the best IMAX films. I remember the times when PS3 was selling poorly and it was so criticised for the expensive blu ray drive (on this website too). Now, wasn’t it a great idea?

I would love to play a 3D RPG game. Maybe Demons Souls 2 utilising Move? This is so exciting.

A TV is going to cost £1,600.00 (40) and larger ones over £2,000.00 (in the UK). I'm getting 3D Sony Bravia as soon as one is available.

Think 3D - Think PS3

What kind of TV does your senior manager lady currently have? Also, can you update us when she actually make the purchase?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Before PS3 was labeled as the "cheapest blu-ray player", now it'll be labeled as the "cheapest 3D blu-ray player" (once that 3D firmware hits lol)

It may be a "cheapest standalone 3D bluray player". Bluray drive for compter + 3d software is still cheaper.

lol true Bluray was always cheapest for computer.

3D is over-rated, its just a trend. Blame Avatar with its over-blown Pocahontas story, prefer Titanic over it anyday. I can wach Lords of the Rings Trilogy and Titanic over and over but not Avatar, the movie is too pretentious for its own good, nobody in their right mind would want to rewatch it.

i don't know if 3D will push PS3 sales, but i know i'll be getting a 3DTV the moment they announce Demon's Souls 2 with 3D and Move support.

Right...
@Kowen
I dont think 3D TVs are available in UK at the mo. It will be later this year
@disolitude
No console can ever compete with PC so no argument here but consoles are just more convenient. CAD 2,400.00 is about GBP 1,600.00 so the price is right. Expensive but there are people who are happy to pay. Prices should go down before Xmas.

If Samsungs TV is better than Sonys then the choice is obvious. There is some interesting read here so I might be getting a totally different tv

Samsungs usually gets a better price/image quality ratio rating. But most reporters like "consumer report", doesnt evaluate the global quality (failure rate) and company service. Samsung offer the crapiest service and product you can find anywhere, do not wander why they are able to offer a full features product at half the price of their competitors. At my store we decided to stop selling their appliances because there was way too much problem and ordering parts would take 2-3 months instead of 2-3 days with other companies. Today its all about buying cheap with pack of features, both dont go together. You are better paying a bit more most of the time. Between, Samsung is the only brand we dont carry now lol. If you want a not too expensive korean product you would be better buying an L.G. (Lucky Goldstar) even if both products look the same.
