Well, the PSP is the least successful 7th gen console...

But you are correct... more people have phones than gaming consoles...

hard to measure maybe in software sells but sell alot more than consoles. it's top dog in japan

it is? [top dog]

It has 3 games that sold more than 1 million - all of them monster hunter.

DS has 34.

hardware sale s u know sony doens't make profits  only from software an it keeps at top selling hardware from time to time.

it have tons of 500k more and actually good titles, birth by sleep, crisis core, monster hunter.

DS may have 34 but how many are pokemon?, how many are mini games?

quality VS quantity

Top Dog means best at something, right?

It's not best at hardware, first party software sales, third party software sales, 500k sellers (by tons you mean 6), 100k sellers and everything else you choose.

Quality wise, I believe that most people believe DS is much superior too, but ok, fair enough if you find the PSP the "top dog" in that aspect.

*looks at psp hardware sales* it have been outselling all DS DSi Dsi XL bundles together for a while.

that doesn't look like less successful 7th generation console,  rampant piracy have really destroyed but seriously 360 have done way less.

PSP have some great games i don't mean sales,  but the variety of the library, while crisis core or birth by sleep didn't reach a million look for RPG on DS that isn't nintendo mario, or pokemon that done the same?

As an Iphone user.. It's not our fault that companies are taking it serious.. capcom, square enix, id software, ea and a lot more developers are starting to make games for it.. so yes.. you can compare them.. The Iphone isn't that old and now we are seeing better and better games on it.

Lots of nice games coming out or are out next to a lot of crap:

And many more like: fifa, tiger woods, brother in arms, nova, fishing kings, cooking mama etc

Developers are starting seeing the Iphone market as a better one then the PSP.. sucks for the PSP.. but that's life..

^This!

I sold my PSP and my DSi (gave that to my mum) and bought a 32gb ipod touch, I have had FAR more fun with it than the PSP and DSi combined, some of the games on the appstore are absolutely fantastic, the graphics make the DS look really poor and can easily match the PSP (just look at NOVA, PVZ and GTA), gameplay is superb thanks to the multi touch screen and motion control.

Games such as Plants vs Zombies, Sentinel, Creeps, SF4, GTA, FF, Need for Speed Shift, NOVA, Modern Combat: Sandstorm, COD: Zombies, Real Racing, Space Miner, Mirrors Edge, Ragdoll Blaster 2, Superfall, Chop Chop Ninja, Peggle, plus the 100's of superb indie games and all the free online games like We Rule, Godfinger, Touchpets and Eliminate, the iphone/touch is an amazing gaming device and is easily the portable gaming platform to be involved in right now, developers know this and most consumers know this.

It actually feels exciting to be involved in the iphone/touch scene at the moment, I beta test a lot of games, give feedback and see the improvements I mention get added to the final games, theres always superb new releases out everyday, some would say there is too much being released!

Then you have all the online multiplayer games and the xbox live like services such as openfeint, plus, anon and crystal, these give you points systems, achivements/awards, online leaderboards, friends lists, chat, forums, developer fan pages etc, it is superb and really feels like a mobile xbox live service.

To the doubters out there, you can doubt and brush it off all you want but the fact is this, the iphone/touch market has now surpassed the PSP market in less than 12 months, it has the most growth out of ANY portable/mobile gaming market and is set to be another record year, all the major developers and publishers are on board with the iphone/touch/ipad.

You can ignore idevice gaming all you want but it isn't going away, it's only going to get bigger and bigger! Just take a look over at Touch Arcade and see how many fantastic games are out and how popular they are, the iphone/touch has a combined userbase of 82 million which is only going to increase, that is a huge userbase in such a small amount of time!

You will be shocked to know how many people have a iphone ot touch as their main portable gaming device now, nearly everyone I speak to on twitter, touch arcade, slide to play etc don't use their psp's or ds's anymore, no need once you have a better device that offers much more!

So yup, idevice gaming is here to stay, Nintendo and mainly Sony should be very worried....

I have an iphone too and an ipod, and yes I play iphone games... sometimes

In the long term iPhone like devices are and will be more practical as long as portable games devices are limited to such a small niche market. I know it seems wierd, but it's all marketing directions. Where as consoles are built as gaming and moving gamers towards media. The smart phone/iPhone is a phone that's moving into gaming. The only other product with this direcion is the PC. From Tool to Toy. The only barrier to the iPhone is the pricing structure. Either it's cheapish with a contract or $600cdn at the popular stores.

I've heard talks of Iphone being more powerful than PSP but until it can deliver amazing games such as these PSP titles I wont be replacing my PSP for an Iphone anytime soon.

I have games on my iPhone, but most of my portable gaming time is on DS then PSP with barely touched iPhone games, I only play iPhone games if I have no choice.

The point i'm just trying to make is that until sony makes this "psp phone" it's not fair to compare them considering that ones primary function is for talking the other is for games. A phone in this day and age is a pretty much needed while a game system is not, so its obvious which one would make more money.

Just as a PC is made for all kinds of computing, while a game console is made primarily for games. Yet we don't let that stop us from comparing PCs to consoles both as a gaming experience and as gaming markets.

Here's study which suggests that the iPhone may have overtaken the PSP as a market for game software:

http://blog.flurry.com/bid/31566/Apple-iPhone-and-iPod-touch-Capture-U-S-Video-Game-Market-Share

I always urge caution at drawing too many conclusions from this study, because it's only one region, because it's not clear if Flurry has some means of tracking digital sales on PSP and DS, and because Flurry itself has a stake in the iPhone OS that they don't have in the PSP platform.

Even with all these caveats, doesn't the finding that the iPhone brings in almost twice as much gaming revenue as retail PSP titles in the US at least suggest that the two devices are competing? I agree that it's hard to compare the two platforms in terms of devices sold, since it's quite possible for iPhone and iPod Touch owners to get a lot of use out of their devices without buying games, but actually looking at game software revenues of the two platforms is another matter.

Uh, I don't actually disagree with you on point, but... couldn't you have brought some better videos?  I mean only one of those is actual unedited gameplay. :/

I have both an iphone and a psp. I enjoy my PSP games (Jeanne D' Arc current fav). I do not play that many games on my Iphone atm.
