Forums - Gaming - The worst sequel to a game?

Hahaha, I had just posted on the other thread saying that I was too bored to create this one XD

I definetly agree with your picks as I pointed out in the other thread, and yes Parasite Eve 2 was seriously downgraded. They tried to make a hybrid between RPG and Resident Evil gameplay (I still cringe whenever I have to dodge enemy attacks and try to aim guns in PE2 >_<) with no real connection to the original story and just overall lack of anything that made the original Parasite Eve a trully remarkable RPG.

Edit - I would like to point out that Alundra 2 was also a seriously bad sequel. The first one was actually a very good game, with some of the most inventive and hard puzzles i've ever played. The second was a generic RPG borefest with no actual story.

What other sequels should we stay away from?

Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight

such a tragedy what EA has done to this franchise

Devil May Cry 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4

MGS4? ...

I've yet to play a sequel that just sucks compared to the original..

I thought the story and the plot twists were awful, and the drebin points made the game very easy. Also you only got to play the game for 4 hours. There were other things I hated about this game, but it's not coming to me atm. All-in-all, the first three were better, imo.

I'd throw in Crisis Core: FFVII as well, if it counts - terrible gothic poetry dialogue, incredibly easy gameplay (all you have to do is press x; Zack runs to the enemies by himself!). The DMW reel was stupid and annoying when it occurred every five seconds during a boss fight. It felt like the game was the one playing the game. All I ever did was run around in circles until the game entered a modulation phase aka limit break. The game defeated most of the boss fights for me. The only good things about this game were the graphics and soundtrack.

Final Fantasy X-2. Good gameplay, but what happened to the FFX atmosphere? And Yuna and Rikku? Who's Paine? Gaaah, so bad.

Yup that's exactly what I think.

I started playing Parasite with the second one, well, I only played the second one so I really don't complain. I liked that game but I know it was very Resident Evil like. I wish the first one would be released in the PSN.

Alundra 2 was indeed crappy. The first Alundra was awesome. I'd play Alundra over Zelda any day.

I'll ride the bandwagon of hate and acknowledge Devil May Cry 2 as the worst sequel I have see.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

FFX-2. The battle system was good but the rest of the game...
Part of me wants to add Tales of Symphonia 2 to the list as well. Damn you Emil...

You should give the first one a chance whenever you can, trust me, after playing it, the second one will seem like a below-average game.

Not only in terms of story, but because of the battle system itself. It masterfully balances ATB and free movement, meaning that you can dodge normally but still have to play it in a turn-based manner, albeit with tons of derivative strategy with the implemention of a different Parasite Energy system and a more complex weapon system. Plus, it had Eve, one of the best villains ever created (Original Eve still kicks her arse, but only those who have reached her know this xD).

I actually enjoyed Devil May Cry 2, but it was the worst of the bunch, that's true.

Final Fantasy X-2 and XIII.... god damn i was so hyped about both but they seemed to fail

DMC2. It was so bad I didn't even play it. :P FFX-2 and Xenosaga II; not the worse, but definitely disappointing.

Currently playing: Marvel vs. Capcom 3, League of Legends
