PS2 "record sales" always will have an asterisk included due to the hardware problems. At least Nintendo doesn't include replacement-under-warranty numbers in their "sold" numbers. Sony is a nice deceit for saying a warranty replacement = shipped unit = hardware sold. lol, right.
Just like, as much as I love Nintendo's methods, I have to include an asterisk with the DS now, due to previous owners buying a lite, which still isn't going to have the impact as the PS2 had on numbers. At least the original DS's aren't dying. It's a consumer choice to buy two working models of the same product. It is NOT the consumer's choice to buy a replacement model of a PS2 because the last one died.
Sitting next to me on my couch is another dying PS2 (which refuses to load my FFChronicles CD, so I play it on PS1 instead), and fully functional consoles PS1, Wii, XBox, SNES and an NES.
Nintendo's reliable hardware may cost them "sales records" nobody really cares about other than to brag.... if it has an asterisk, it doesn't count for fact in my book.

Numbers: Checker Players > Halo Players
Checkers Age and replayability > Halo Age and replayability
Therefore, Checkers > Halo
So, Checkers is a better game than Halo.
