I just beat the God Of War Collection and let me tell you I want to know what happens next and I will know now that I finally beat the gow collection :)
One question though...do i need to play god of war psp to understand gow 3 or is playing the first 2 enough
nope, there are a few recaps of it, but this video will help yah..it recaps everything for you in minutes

No, Chains of Olympus is just a prequel to the first game, nothing of real importance happens. It is a good game though and I do recommend you get it and play it

there are references of Chains of Olympus in GOWIII. If you can get the game play it, it's great just by itself.

lol oh yea i traded in uncharted 1 for gow 3 :p funny you mention it but I have assasins creed 1,FF7,FF8,marvel vs capcom 2,super street fighter turbo HD remix,and thats about it nothing huge

you would have needed it to understand why Atlas is where he is in GOW2

My friends all said they didn't understand several sections of the game, such as large portions of the encounter with hades reference chains of Olympus. It's not that you won't understand the overall plot though, just some sub-plots and references.
