Forums - Gaming - Nier, just another "The Bouncer"?

It's a bit weakish at the moment.

Gameplay is "lots of running around, some whackity-whack"

You can attach four 'spells' to your trigger buttons, with evade being one.

attacking is basically bashing one button and holding it for a more powerful attack (pressing it at the fourth hit will get you a different animation / move than when you do it at the second for example)

Sometimes it switches to a sidescrolling view, or a topdown view.

You can upgrade weapons by adding "words" to it. That way you can increase counter, power, magic and so on. using items is a bit annoying, as you have to go into the menu, go to the right tab and then select a potion or something. Still not sure about how this game is going to turn out.

How's the story, writing, and voice acting so far?  Are the cutscenes lengthy?  S-E seemed to put emphasis on the story so it will no doubt be a big part of the game.

Story hasn't been unravelled all that much yet (but from what I am not allowed to tell..... I can't tell :p). Have been playing for quite some time and I haven't even uncovered pretty much anything :s

Cutscenes are basically non-existant so far, unless you count in-game "shows of where to go and of the environment you just entered" as cutscenes ^^

voice acting is decent, some nice characters in there, although it's a shame that they sometimes speak and sometimes act like a mute with a text balloon.

All I know is, Nier is just a couple of misplaced G's away from a racial controversy that will make the one surrounding Resident Evil 5 look like nothing.

I'm a closet cavia fan, so I'm in. Drakengard 1-2 were awesome!

Non-existant cutscenes is totally suprising coming from S-E since FF and KH series tend to pretty much spend half of their gameplay times in cutscenes.  Then again, it is being developed by cavia whereas FF and KH were in-house S-E.

I might. Depends on if I feel like it or not. If it is anything like Drakengard. Then day 1 for sure.

Sounds a little like Darksiders, or KH? I don't know but I love the genre so I'm hoping for good games like this too come out.
