Forums - Microsoft - Natal will “surprise you”, says Greenberg

We don't yet know how bad the lag will be; I suspect it may not be suited to fast moving shooters. As others have said, it should make navigating through the menus a doddle (Minority Report Style). It is also undeniable that there are definitely game genres where it will really enhance and speed up gameplay (It's going to be excellent for wargames where you choose units and manouver them around a map). I'm expecting some limitations and know it won't suit every genre but I'm excited about the prospects and look forward to seeing how the developers implement the control method in new games.

motin controllers are kinda like using disc in games consoles for the first time to 'me'. It's not till the next step is innovation really seen. ( Adding HDD etc to make better use of load times etc ). Natal is really the real evolution towards VR. I am gonna stick my neck out and say Natal is gonna kick the world into a frenzy more than the Wii ever did. Minorty Report will be thrown around, as will jaws on floors from families who casually play Wii bowling. Personally I think M$ are gearing it's games right at these casual families. And it will be more than just some avatar on screen swinging a controller. ( Not a stab at Nintendo ). I think people will find a real connection and feeling using Natal.

For shooters MS could combine the camera with a pointer device like a wii zapper to get a 1:1 ratio.

Coming from anyone's PR, be it Sony, Wii, or Microprofit, when I see the "an experience that all people be it young, old, male or female can enjoy" I can blindly put the "bullshit" tag right away.

Microprofit? that sound actually cool.

Sony should be called Sonoprofit, because they're not making any profit

Well, it's better then the Microshite you see chucked around the web.

What would Nintendo be called?

NinOMFGBBQWTFPROFITdo?

after the 3DS hype, the strange thing is that I'm more excited for this now

This suggestion (which is a totally sensical one) sort of makes the point that a motion based camera system like the Natal or Eyetoy just doesn't cut it.  If you go that route you need to have add ons for most game types ala the PS3 move which adds motion controllers to the eyetoy in order to allow for a much larger variety of games.

Just wait til people want to play shooters, fighting games and more on the Natal, the "easy no controller solution" is going to turn into peripheral hell (or just remain unusable for those game types, which as luck would have it are the most popular game types).

PSN ID: ChosenOne feel free to add me

No, thanks.

Where the Wi is concerned Shooters most certainly aren't the most popular. And last time I checked games like Wii Sports are destroying any shooter on the market. M$ are aiming for a much wider audience than the shooter market with this. M$ already owns the shooter market.

But point to consider. People need to think outside the box. Shooters on Natal obviously would be so different to a controller shooter. You cant move forward in tech and stay in the past with game design. This is where many of you are going wrong with complaining about adapting Natal to a FPS.
