I dont know why people try to make the Slim as something that will help sell 360s.. SONYs slim wasnt the selling point, it was its price and focus on marketing. The re-design most likely had a very small effect on sales.

I dont see the need for a 360 slim tbh.

Every existing PS3 phat owner I know went and bought a Slim. I actually reckon at least 50-60% of PS3 slim sales was to existing owners. Me and all my 360 friends would definately rebuy the 360 Slim even though we have a 360. It happened with the PS2 as well. All of us ( me and my friends ) bought the Slim PS2 even though we had perfectly working Phat PS2's.

why would they have no internal hd? A usb drive would be a lot slower...look how much they charge for their hdd...the extenal ones would be even more from MS unless your using your own..so they add natal and lose the external hd? Bad move...i don't see them giving you an external harddrive with paying for it separate and if that's the case....i can see them only using an offiical ext MS to get more then 30 gb limit..like kingofwale said...they should put the brick as part of the system and also wifi...but I don't see them doing wifi since they sell it separately...i would be interested in getting a slim but if there's no internal hd...they can kiss my ass

Internal HDD would not be needed. Releae the slim with a 60gb USB flash memory solves any new adopters issues. Also M$ have already confirmed that any make will work with the 360. If they lifted the 30gb limit with the slim, I would use my 420gb HDD USB I have. And no speed is not an issue. The existing 360 HDD is not actually internal. It has a connection which is the same speed as the 360's USB speed.

Flash memory is still way to expensive if you want more than a handful of Gigabytes. The Xbox 360 memory units are pretty much just modified USB flash memory stick, and look at the prices: The 512MB memory unit costs 45 Euros (=60 USD) at the cheapest online shop in my country.

And you are talking a memory stick that has 120 times the capacity. I just checked a price comparison website for 64GB USB flash memory sticks, and the cheapest one costs 120 Euros (161 USD) at the cheapest store. So if Microsoft sold it for the Xbox 360, it would probably be around 5000 Euros. ;)

But seriously, a slim Xbox 360 without a hard disc is simply no option. I'm sure the Xbox 360 slim will have an internal hard disc, and the old 360 hard disk drives will be incompatible with the slim model. Maybe the slim XBox 360 will take standard 2,5" SATA hard disks just like the PS3. But I personally doubt that, the fact that you cannot use standard hard disks with the 360 make Microsoft huge profits. I think they will release hard disk drives with a new form factor for the slim model.

There are 1 inch and 1.8 inch drives out there... so it wouldn't be an issue if they wanted to include a drive

I could see this happening but I think they will sell their own type of memory stick for the 'slim' 360. Like the hdd's they have now, only their stick works eliminating the use of any external hdd.

May I ask why?

I bought a Nintendo DSi even though I had a perfectly working DS. In the end it was pretty much just money thrown out of the window, but at least there was some point to it: The Nintendo DSi has more features.

The PS3 slim on the other hand does not provide any new features, it even has less features and looks cheaper. I really can't imagine why anyone who already owns a fat PS3 would spend 299 Euros just to have another, smaller PS3. And that applies to the PS2 slim as well. I don't know a single PS2 or PS3 owner who bought the slim model when his fat model was still working fine, and I also can't remember having read of someone else who did that in the PS3 internet forums that I read.

I agree with Stekstav: The success of the PS3 slim is not due to being a new, smaller model, but because of the significant price drop. When the official price of the PS3 was 399, it was a lot harder for people to justify the extra 150 Euros that the PS3 cost more than the Xbox 360. Now the PS3 slim is 299  and the comparable Xbox 360 Elite is only 50 Euros less.  Combine that with the fact that Blu-Ray movies are currently getting very popular, and it's easy to understand why the PS3 currently looks like a better deal for people who are interested in buying a console.

If Microsoft will significantly lower the 360 price when releasing the 360 slim (and I am sure they will), and the PS3 stays at 299, I think the situation will change again - 360 sales will rise, PS3 sales will fall.

I predict that the HDD may very well not be user upgradeable with the slim Xbox 360. It means they can price the two SKUs more closely together and once they have 250GB of storage space standard I doubt that 99% of people will run out of space on their consoles so it makes the option of upgrading moot.

Tease.

I agree completely with you Selnor. With the rumors flying around about a 360 revision, the use USB drives for memory storage makes this even more likely. Obviously they plan on removing the memory card slots on the revised 360 hardwares, so USB flash drives are the logical replacement. I'm not sure about the HDD though, maybe they will make internal drives instead.

But I'm sure we will see a new 360 in the next few months.

I'm not rebuying jack. If a redesigned M$ HD console comes out at all it won't be called slim because it will need the hdd to fit. It won't be called 360 because they will take the opportunity to ditch the associated negative connotations and it won't be this year imo. I'll stay with my 2012 pred. but fall 2011 seems more and more likely for the neXXus.

Why would I pay again for the same hardware when I have a 3 yr. war. on rrod and E74 for this one? Looks alone won't do it for me. Built in Natal either.

if a new slim 360 model comes out im buying it
just like i did with PS2 and thinking about doing with the PS3 (I have the phat one)
