Flash memory is still way to expensive if you want more than a handful of Gigabytes. The Xbox 360 memory units are pretty much just modified USB flash memory stick, and look at the prices: The 512MB memory unit costs 45 Euros (=60 USD) at the cheapest online shop in my country.
And you are talking a memory stick that has 120 times the capacity. I just checked a price comparison website for 64GB USB flash memory sticks, and the cheapest one costs 120 Euros (161 USD) at the cheapest store. So if Microsoft sold it for the Xbox 360, it would probably be around 5000 Euros. ;)
But seriously, a slim Xbox 360 without a hard disc is simply no option. I'm sure the Xbox 360 slim will have an internal hard disc, and the old 360 hard disk drives will be incompatible with the slim model. Maybe the slim XBox 360 will take standard 2,5" SATA hard disks just like the PS3. But I personally doubt that, the fact that you cannot use standard hard disks with the 360 make Microsoft huge profits. I think they will release hard disk drives with a new form factor for the slim model.
