I have used both (My W7 server dual boots into Gentoo or W7 Ultimate).  Streaming supported files works perfectly fine, but trancoding is the problem I keep running into.  Ive used various media servers for W7 and use MediaTomb for Gentoo.  What is the server you are running on Ubuntu?

Not asking people to be happy, just be understanding. Majority of complaints I see don't even mention this Geodude, it's all placed on Sony.

GeoHot hasn't done anything other than make a system open and SONY is removing an advertised feature. I don't know why you would blame him. Any time there is a close technology people find ways to break it open, that's how technology works. As I said before, People vs Companies, when it comes to security, is always in favor of People. A good company would know this. Even with what they are doing, the system will be forced open.

tl;dr It's solely Sony's fault because they really don't seem to understand how technology works.

I Don't use it and advocate its removal.

the normal Rythmbox and VLC + Movie Player server, they work great but if you wan't to use them you have to have the programs open (which is also why i prefer them since i don't want to be connected always)

Ill give them a shot.  Last time I used Rythmbox (in 2008 I think it was) it did not support the correct information to uPnP share with the PS3.  I would assume it does now?  If so, Ill give it a shot.  Atleast this time Portage supports it.  God I love packet managers.

I don't use it, but I feel for those who uses it.

it did support it but you had to turn it on in the settings , and if its old you have to upgrade the package.

I didn't even have the option to use it as I have a Slim. Lame if they do remove it.

But I really think it's just April Fools joke., a lot of things related to this 3.21 update don't make sense at all.

That's right, just one "d"

Right, and as I said the machines in the cluster will be unaffected (assuming no jackass decides to try to play a game on one of them in the middle of the night not knowing he might accidentally destroy the machine). The thing is, I bought mine for when I don't want to work on the cluster (I hate Fedora) AND to play games when I don't feel like working. Now if I want to play any new games which come out -- without nuking my gentoo partition -- I need to A) buy another PS3 or B) carefully wait for Geohot's cracked Firmware updates.

Just thought I might say, for legal reason, if they really do remove "other OS" through updating on PSN. They will NEVER do a mandatory update to play a game that would remove "other OS". Youll still be able to play all new games without removing "other OS" feature. So dont worry about people playing games, they will not be ask a mandatory update that would uninstall "otherOS". But surely you can forget DLC and patches. I agree with you tho, it sucks, they shouldnt do that.
