Forums - Gaming - so what if it's the same old game

people complain that certain games are more of the same. Let's take cod mw2 for example. Some people complain that it's more of the same. This is'nt neccesarly a bad thing. It drastically improves on the orginal in my opinion. If it's not broke, then why try to overhaul it and make it completly different. The sales agree with me on this one. Look at what Ea did with Mirror's edge and Dead space. Those were new IP's and those games sales weren't nearly as successful. I thought dead space was great and inovative in certain area's,but it's sales weren't nearly as good. Studio's are going to keep coming out with sequel after sequel,as long as people continue to buy them. If it's not broke, then why fix it. If you really want something different and inovative, then speak with your wallet. Look at Heavy Rain. Sales of Heavy Rain personally caught me buy surprise. It did what 500,000 copies in week 1. Not bad for a new and differnt game. Thoughts? Comments?

the people who complain that its the same old game is a flaw are just people who don't like the game perioud. (well usually)

If that is true then I am an exception.

I don't buy many of the same games over and over, shooters in particular I tend to only buy a couple per gen, especially as they have all become so serious.

I meant to say that most people who say its a flaw in the game use it as a excuse on why they don't like the game.
Though there is a limit on how much you can do somthing over and still have fun.  So yes doing the same thing over and over all the
time is bad

I see your point

One good series I can think of where people always complain that its 'more of the same' is Dead or Alive. Yet where other people complain about it being 'more of the same', I see a series that kept refining itself and each game got better and better each game. With DOA4 being the most balanced and fun of them all.

However, aside from those people who complain about games not changing enough, I actually see the opposite more often. People usually are complaining more about games changing TOO much from sequel to sequel. Take Smash Bros Brawl, GTA4, Resident Evil 5, Chrono Cross, Zelda: Twilight Princess, the various Pokemon titles...heck, I've even heard people complain about Mario Galaxy.

So in the end, sure, there could be an argument made for games that don't change to much. Even for my example I can see where Dead or Alive games didn't add enough new features or characters to warrant peoples interest. But I think more people get annoyed when a game actually DOES try to change things up.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

The statement does not make any sense to me in it current state. What is being purchased here exactly? And why is this thread's inspiration to buy something that does not deserver high sales. I am all confused now.

Sorry, I could not help myself for taking this post in it's most literal of sense.

It's fine having more of the same up to a point and as long as there is refinement along the way. However, there comes a point where the majority will tire of the same thing and look for a new experience. This happens more so if you keep releasing the samething in a very short space of time.
