the move will push the ps3 into new heights.
Do you think that move will be a success | |||
| Yes, it will be epic | 38 | 31.67% | |
| Yeah bu it won't be huge | 39 | 32.50% | |
| who knows | 17 | 14.17% | |
| It'll probably slowly die off | 13 | 10.83% | |
| It will fail trying to copy wii | 10 | 8.33% | |
| project Natal will dominate | 3 | 2.50% | |
| Total: | 120 | ||
I really think that MS and Sony did two bad decisions: Move, and Project Natal. Yes they will sell, but only to people who already own a PS3 or 360, it will not boost the sales of either console. And the success of one of them depends on the games. I'm sure that PS3 and 360 owners aren't interested in games like wii sport, or mini games. That is why Heavy Rain, and Socom 4 will be compatible with move.
Being in 3rd place never felt so good
Here's my take.
It all really depends on the following:
- Affordable price so when consumers see the Move and the Price, they'll at least consider it.
- Games. Not matter how fantastic the Move technology is, if there are no games worthwhile to play on the Move, then there's really no point in buying it. It's a gaming device remember...
- Advertising. If Sony doesn't advertise this in the right way and doesn't try to reach out to a new audience using Ads, then Move is gonna go down. Advertising Move is the key.
IMO the most important factor Sony must take advantage of is the Price. Consumers are gonna look at the Move and probably think "Hey that's pretty similar to the Wii stuff!" And then when they look at the price and see it's overpriced then they'll think "Well if it can do the same stuff as the Wii then I may as well get the Wii." So Sony must make sure it's affordable at all costs!!

It very well could happen, it's just not likely. PS3 is already the big boys console and Nintendo and Wii are already the names everyone knows. A parent can either spend $250 on a console they have heard of, has Mario, and is the big thing (to them) or they can spend $400 on a console they may not have heard so much about and that they haven't seen those games that everyone at the office is talking about. The Move is still able to capture the core audience, that grab is far from being over, but the PS3 is never going to overtake the Wii in the family fun area. Nintendo has already dug themselves too far into that trench. |
You have made some good points and I agree with you in some parts.
I think it is hard - and too early - to say whether it will be successful or not. You don't (or anyone for that matter) know what games or ideas are being currently implemented for it, ignoring silly games like the wii sports clone obviously - I think this will be bundled with the controller anyway.
Sony needs to pull more from up their sleeves if they wish to accompolish succes with move. There is time to do that. How is the question.
To qoute you:
"It very well could happen..." : If promoted the right way.
"..it's just not likely" : I would give it a 60:40 chance rather than your 90:10 (fail:success).
@Metallicube
People and companies change. I am not saying Sony will in this case but I believe they must have learnt something.
Getting rid of the old management, the recent turnaround of the "doomed" PS3 and the embarassment of being in that position in the first place could have "bitch slap" Sony and woke them up.
Time will tell.
It will be a big failure. I'm a sony Fanboy and i will buy 4 of these when it comes out but
my friends wouldn't. So i think it will be the biggest failure in Sony's history.

Im not sure, but already annoucing support for heavy rain and little big planet sure is a good thing and pleases a large crowd. Upgrading their eyetoy and sixaxys titles is easy, cheap and great idea. They seem to do it well up until now.
| twesterm said: I don't think it will be anywhere near the success of the Wii, but it can be a success, it just depends on the games. The Move just isn't going to attract the casual crowd the Wii has. The PS3 doesn't have the name or reputation amongst parents for that so that's out. It can attract the core audience, but it really needs games that differentiate it from Wii games. We know it can do HD Wii games which is cool, but they really need to show things that I can't already play on the Wii if they expect people to buy it. Honestly, I think it will be heavily promoted but not fully utilized and slowly die off and see less and less support. |
1 post in and i already found the perfect response. +1
Depends on the games it gets. If all it gets is shitty party games then it will fail, but if it gets some big budget games then it could succeed.
Well, with the announcement that Heavy Rain supports it, it will sell at least one unit

This is the world according to you Reason the Nes sold so well - Games Reason the Snes sold so well - Games Reason the PS1 sold so well - Games Reason the PS2 sold so well - Games Reason the Wii sold so well - teh waggle
"Half of the time the games aren't that good but the're just fun."
How can a game be fun but not good? Fun is the aim of video games and good is a description of how well it meets this aim.
Until you understand the Wii, you will never be able to predict anything about move. I suggest you lurk, but do not post on the nintendo forum for a while |
I wasn't saying that the wii doesn't has a lot of good games (which it does), I was just saying how the wiimote played a large part in its success. A lot of bad games on the wii are fun because they play well with others, although without the wiimote they would just be bad games
