i don't get what you guys are saying... why not make it like a Zelda game world i mean look at OoT it was on N64 and if Mario 64 could run on the DS a Pokemon game could easily be made on the new 3DS.

this though needs a bigger team to make the Pokemon and their moves and sounds and i don't see why Nintendo couldn't get a team to do this. Pokemon will not stay 2D forever, it will be in 3D sooner or later and i think this is the right time as it needs a breath of fresh air.

they already have lots of Pokemon models that they used in previous games on the home consoles. it is easy just use those models and modify them.

I don't see how copying Zelda will make it a "breath of fresh air". If anytihng, it's following the same path as one of Nintendo's other franchises.

When did top-down 2D become a sin? Why does everything have to be in that horrible 3D "over the shoulder" perspective? There's not enough degree of view.

What I meant about it being like a Zelda world was that it would be open. Now what’s the difference between Zelda in 2D and Pokémon in 2D? You can run around freely and explore and find things. How is that copying something that already was similar?

No 2D is not a sin but it is limited.

Trust me, no core Pokemon game is ever going to be 3D.

What many including me have wanted is a true 3D Pokemon game. As the 2D games have now supported online games the next step is an MMORPG Pokemon game were you can meet other people and team up and hunt Pokemon and fight against other player around the world.

As Nintendo have said they want to keep this formula to the hand-held consoles and that is why we never got a true Pokemon RPG on the home consoles.

But now that with the new 3DS the Pokemon games will not be in 2D and the system will be capable of having great online functionality.

About the new Pokemon game, is it confirmed that it will be coming to the DS? I mean why do that when Nintendo could have developed it for the new system and release it as a launch title.

Discuss!

Reading this it just occurred to me what the Wii 2 launch title will be.

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Anticipating: Xenoblade, The Last Story, Mario Kart 7, Rayman Origins, Zelda SS, Crush3D, Tales of the Abyss 3DS, MGS:Snake Eater 3DS, RE:Revelations, Time Travellers, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Luigi's Mansion 2, MH TriG, DQ Monsters, Heroes of Ruin

I have respect for you Roma but you're talking out where the sun doesn't shine.

5th Generation is releasing this year and it's going to be on the DS. no 3 and some 3D models surely but not 3D.

Pixel Art can be fun.

In that case, I do agree with the free world roaming, though it would need to keep some degree of linearity to ensure the gyms are visited in the right (or close to right) order. The "single road between cities" method I wouldn't mind seeing vanish.

Though I'd have to disagree on the aspect that top down 2D is more limited (or even as limited) on 3rd person perspective 3D. Besides not having a clear view of the surroundings that isn't in the forward 120 degrees of view, the player's character itself tends to obstruct things in front.

3PP 3D works for some types of games, but I could never see it working for the main Pokemon series.

It can be 3D but with 2D mechanics.

Also, I'd like to still have my own solitary campaign having the game an MMO section apart.

Imagine one map, as regular gameplay for your campaign, and then a new huge map with many people lurking around seeking for battles, pokemons, lost items, stealing each other pokemons, etc.

It would be epic.
