He's entirely one-dimensional but it works for the story and gameplay. I don't love the character but I don't dislike him, either. He's an appropriate lead for what is basically a mindless action game.

^^ Thanks for writing my answer for me rocket!

Hah, no problem! I like Kratos the same way I like Master Chief. He's a vehicle to keep the story (term used loosely here) moving and little else.

It's really just "main character syndrome" at work though. Most casts have more interesting secondary characters. Who really likes Luke Skywalker? Yeck. Of course Malcolm Reynolds is a great exception, and Nathan Drake from Uncharted is pretty damned likeable in video games.

I agree to an extent but there are main characters I really like. Snake, Jackie from The Darkness, Gordon Freeman, etc. but you're right... in most cases, the main protagonist is pretty vanilla. The side characters are allowed more freedom to be eccentric.

Everyone of those people he killed in god of war 3 deserved a death.

Play the other games, Chains of Olympus, God of war, and God of war II, and you will see that it was justified.

In the demo (haven't played the real thing yet) there was a guy trying to escape a burning building.  Kratos killed him, too!  And what about the guy in God of War 1 who thought Kratos was trying to save him that Kratos killed?  That was my uncle!!  For that reason, I have sworn vengeance on Kratos.

So you play God of War and die over and over? That's just mean...

I don't think that's actually all that uncommon in games. I know I have spent HOURS finding new and interesting ways to kill characters I didn't like in games. I restarted the same Goldeneye level more times than I could count because I kept executing Natasha. In FFVII, I had Cait Sith in my party just to watch him die over and over again (especially against the Ruby Weapon, when I would restart if Cait wasn't the one kicked out of battle). I routintely execute Marines in Halo if they don't follow my (unspoken) orders within seconds. In MGS2, it didn't offer any fantastic ways to make Raiden die a spectacular death but I still tried my best to make it happen. In FPS and sandbox games, I spend an inordinate amount of time killing the main character.

... or maybe that's only me. If I don't like a character, I take delight in making them fail.

It's certainly not something I do, even though I was joking in the first post

I'd much rather be playing Kratos,Nathan Drake,Master Chief etc....these are new heroes of gaming for a new era.

Most of Nintendo's franchises look and play like they were thought up by a four year old.The exceptions being Zelda and Metroid Prime, which will never see the light of day on a high spec powerful HD console they way Nintendo goes about things...

Sony make the grestest icons of current gaming.Kratos is an amazing hero :) or anti hero...depends what you think of what he does really doesn't it.

Masterchief has about as much personality as my speachless knight in Demon Souls.

He's a genetically engineered super soldier. It's not surprising that they skipped the part of the training program where he learns showtunes and how to make balloon animals for children.

I just bought GOW3, this ones the first of the series that I have played....and I have to say that its great. It has a great mythological storyline, great gameplay, and graphics yet The lead character is rather obnoxious to me. Since I havent played the other 2 games of the series I probabably dont know much from his story or whatever, but during my time playing this game, I have to say I just dont like Kratos. The guy is too bent on getting revenge which is great but in the process runing over anyone that unfortunatley gets in his way!! He just Too much of asshole for me to like!!

Who Agree or Dis-Agree??

That's precisely why I like him as a game character

Sure, when I first played GOW1, I was like "WTF is wrong with him lol". But once I finished the game: "MOAR, TEAR APART MOAR <---- *Bloodthirsty*"

Lastly, I must admit I didn't like when I had to kill the guy trying to run away from the building on fire in the GOW3 demo, nor the human sacrifice in GOW1 :( . But overall, awesome!

That's right, just one "d"

In b4 "it's addict"

All of his actions are justifiable, if you look deep enough into his story. I can definitely identify with him. He gets dicked over by all of the gods and he's damn well getting his revenge. He's one of my favorite characters of all time.

I survived the Apocalyps3

I'm not finished with GOW3 yet i just killed hermes. But Kratos gave a few people a way out of death. He has told people to stand aside and live or get in his way and die. He makes it very clear he only wants to kill Zeus but he will kill anyone who tries to stop his revenge on Zeus. so everyone who dies defending zeus makes their own choice. Yes I do like Kratos.

I dont really like him ... but I like what he does, and what he does is kill stuff in the most brutal way imaginable :D

He fits the mythology well, but I don't sympathize much with him. After all he was a bad dude even before he was fooled into murdering his family...
Do I like using the character in the game? Then yes, you feel like a bad-ass with his abilities. Is he one of my favorite characters? No way.
Plus, is it just me or is his voice acting in part 3 particularly bad? I know it's the same actor, but I always liked it before...

No, he is not a heroe
