Forums - Sony - I've just had my 3rd PS3 die on me

I really am sorry didn't want to come off as a jerk. When I read it after I posted it I highly considered deleting it since it seemed a little rude. My apologies for my comments.

thanks.  It's amazing how when writing something we don't relize how it sounds till reading it latter or someone else reads it and gets a very differnet meaning from it.  So no worries.

Almost all 60GB PS3s will die before the generation is out. Get a slim, may as well wait and get a 45nm RSX/Cell version for lower heat/power use and higher reliability.

Im not sure, I play a lot, have it since release and works perfectly fine. Most people wouldnt play as much as me, I also use it for blu ray and music, its on all the time. The other person I know with 60 GB, still doesnt have any problem. The time my PS3 was on would probably represent at least 10 years for a normal gamer who doesnt use it all the time for movies and music. Your assumption doesnt seem right. Actually, considering the data we have (about 1% failure rate), the best assumption to make is the contrary. What is the point in making extremist comment like that?

Just based upon some developers I PM'd at Beyond3D.com who said between most and almost all (depending on the person) PS3 SDKs (based closely off launch PS3s) failed, but it took a lot longer than the walls of early Xbox 360s they had. In addition to this hardware surveys like the ones in the U.K. place PS3 failures quite a bit higher than Wii failures and thats with relatively fewer 60GB PS3s sold in that region due to the late launch and quick replacement with the 40GB model.

Tease.

well thanks everyone for your sympathy and support guess it's ps2 time for me Jak and Daxter first been meaning to play them now I have an excuse then on to the metal gear solid series.

I've had 5 fats already, and my 6th fat isn't playing films properly (Purple screen every 20 seconds, or when subtitles are on. Unfixable, since it's a hardware failure). Had a Slim since my 3th fat, and it still works.

hmm what were the errors that the other's had?  My second two have been ylod while the frist one would play for a bit freeze and the screene would blur up.  The first one I was able to copy my saved data not the second time.  This time if I loose it I'll be frustrated but at least I'll have gotten my demon soulds plat already 140 hours I played that game.

1st. I thought at first that it was a broken HDMI port, turned out my motherboard was fried.. This happened in the WINTER (!) and I allways keep my Ps3s at a good spot with lots of ventilation. 3/4 year

2nd. YLOD while playing Fallout 3. 1/2 Year old

3th. YLOD after starting up the Ps3 after a month of not playing on it. (Kept it clean though).

4th. Broken Blu-Ray reader. (Worse then a broken lens, this requires to replace the whole blu-ray drive.)

5th. YLOD while playing Fallout 3 GOTY (Ps3 version is really focked up)

6th. Not playing films properly, as I said before.

We have two PS3s at home, one 40gig (mine) and a 60gig one. None of them ever had problems. And we use our PS3s often. VERY often.

updated: 14.01.2012

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Stop peeing in your PS3's !!!

̶3̶R̶D̶   2ND! Place has never been so sweet.

mine hasn't died yet.

If you were married and your wives kept dying, the police would probably have suspicions that it's YOU and not faulty women...........

Anyway, go with a Slim.
