Forums - Nintendo - Analysis: "Nintendo 3DS" Announcement

I was actually expecting the psp2 to be 3d enabled, but after what Sony said today, I guess not.
Nintendo may have thought the same thing seeing as how Sony is really getting into 3d too.

The timing of the announcement could have been a punch in the face to Sony, who would be labeled as copycats AGAIN if they showed 3d psp at e3.

Yeah I was kind of thinking the same thing at first. Todays announcement changed that though. I was thinking that Nintendo announced it now because they got word that one of their competitors was going to release a 3-D system and wanted to get a head start and the attention for that.

However a day later it does not appear that way.

Nice read.

Can't wait for E3. Soooooo many different things to be excited about, even before 3DS.

I have never doubted Nintendo, in fact, I want to work there later in life (Bioware being a close second). I have confidence that, whatever Nintendo does, it will be epic.

Hey that´s a very good read, Zucas.

The part where you say "people don´t go to buy a handheld, they go to buy a Nintendo handheld" is interesting....they´ve always been leaders in the handheld market.

Hey Zucas, if we go with the idea no kingdom lasts forever (no man, company, country, etc...can stay on top forever), what do you think would be the greatest threat to Nintendo´s handheld market?....Apple, like so many people say?....or some day something will come out of left field and dethrone them, you reckon?

the decline of the gaming industry, I'd say.

At the point when any and everyone has an ability to make a game with ease.

That was... an interesting and very nice read, to be sure. Probably the best post I've read here on VGC in weeks.
It's all so exciting, haha, I honestly cannot wait until E3, it's going to be incredible on all fronts.

Great read.
This year's E3 will definitely be the defining moment of this generation in terms of the future for every company. Nintendo definitely has some momentum going forward.

The one thing I've said the entire generation is that Nintendo has never capitalized. For example, they would stop an entire army, but leave the opposing commander alive, only for him to run away and create an even more impressive squad to retaliate.

I think with the way things are going now, they are going forward full throttle and not leaving as much on the table. Having Nintendo rolling on all cylinders is a scary thought.

But they have killed the surprised for E3. iF Sony annouce a new PSP, that's all we will be talking about.

But, this is more an answer to Apple I think.

Actually, if Sony announces a new PSP, that's all we will be expecting.

With the element of surprise, Nintendo lucks out. As for Apple, I'm not even sure. People flip-flop on the idea of whether Ninty even considers them a competitor. Since they probably do, it will be a tough fight. 3rd parties don't like supporting Nintendo enough as it is. The thing with the iPhone/iTouch is the low visibilty for certain software, but it gets tons of games/apps anyways.

We'll see.

@ saviorX

Sure the iPhone gets tons of games, but more than 90% of those are just pure crap developed under famous licenses (Metal Gear solid) and sold for bargain prices.

iPhone is a cash-in cow for companies.
