Forums - Sony - PSP2 may well be 3D! Despite what Sony says!

The problem is that, you still deny Move is a copy of Wiimote, regardless of Sony themselves admitting to it.
People tend to throw that at you every time because they like seeing you moan and groan in denial.

Damn, you and some others are ruining the forums nowadays. Youre talking as if theres no difference between inspiration, realising theres a demand for something VS copy. Youre in denial, motion controller is a feature, it existed long before the Wii or PS3. Its a feature... As dumb as claiming Sony copied Microsoft because they added an harddisc to their console. Not only move is a feature, but its also an eyetoy feature lol. Next gen the other companies will probably choose a blu ray drive instead of a DVD drive, are they copying? lol

If eyetoy is motion control, so is LED.

The PSP2 (or whatever it is called) may have a 3D screen or it may not ... Personally, I think the big question is whether the PSP2 will exist in a similar form factor/market space as the PSP did.

What I mean by this is that the PSP was meant to compete directly against Nintendo in the handheld gaming space and the iPod in the portable media player space; and the PSP was lacking of very important characteristics in both market-spaces as a result. I don’t think people will question how the PSP was lacking as a media device in comparison to the iPhone or iPod-Touch; but the fact that the PSP didn’t have the battery life, load times, or kinds of games that the DS had hurt it as a portable gaming device.

In my opinion, in order for the PSP2 to be a successful device Sony has to decide what its primary purpose is, make it excel at that, and then add the other features to it. If their focus is on gaming the PSP2 may have a 3D display, if it is a media device that would be less likely because it doesn’t really have much of a point.

agreed.

ALSO, to anyone commenting here, keep in mind that I wrote this before the rumor mill started with the whole Sharp's Parallax Barrier Technology. As it stands, I don't think Sony will have 3D. As Squirrel said, they really need to knuckle down and figure out what they want to do. Both markets are good markets to be in, but have really steep competition. I mean, it's either Nintendo or Apple. THat sucks, TBH. An expandable OLED would be sweet, though, and I think some kind of reading application would be helpful too. Other than that, they really need to re-evaluate what they want to do. Holograms would be so cash.........ok I'm really getting carried away now. I'm just going to stop.

For what I know, Sharp parallax barrier doesnt exist in those small size. Also, it doesnt give the same result you get with glasses or phillips tech. It add sense of depth but only very lightly out of screen effect. Never saw it in person tho, it may be better then it was before, and they may have very small display. If it is working like it should, its a day 1 for me, ill take that anytime before a PSP2.

I read there initial announcement as, " well we weren't planning on it, but sounds like a good idea. I think we might consider adding it in :P"

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

If it works, I think they should, they are bringing 3D on all their other stuff. Glassless 3D is the apoteose of gaming lol. I doubt things will really pop out of the screen with this tech tho.

Link?

That is not '3d' For it to be 3d, objects must appear closer if they are closer, and appear further if they are further. That Iphone trick is no more 3D than using an analogue stick to rotate a camera is 3d

The PSP is already in 3D, if it wasn't we couldn't play it.

/bad joke

Using accelerometer for 3D would give us the same results as this game on the DSi using camera tracking:

Why launch a portable with a different name, more graphics, and more pricey, that at the end the "3D" is the same as seen in that video?

Why does it have the Sharp 3D LCD screen then?

Also Nintendo said "3D without glasses" so it means its stereoscopic images, and those videos only shows successive single frames, otherwise you would need glasses to see the 3D effect.

Nintendo probably is talking here about the 3D you see in avatar, but you won't need glasses.

I just hope it isn't that expensive teh sharp 3d screens are pretty $$$.

Actually, they're not as expensive as you might think.

"For now, however, the technology is confined to smaller displays. Parallax barrier LCDs cost about $20 to $30 per display at the size the Nintendo 3DS will likely use, 4 inches. Traditional LCD screens of that size that are currently in the Nintendo DSi, cost about $10 to $20 each, according to DisplaySearch."
