I don't think anyone thinks that it failed in the hardware front.
It failed in the software front - both in sales (one DS game - nintendogs - outsells all PSP top sellers - combined!) and in stabilishing new and popular IPs - especially first party ones.
PSP2 will receive almost no inheritance from it's predecessor.
There's no Brain Age, no Nintendogs, no Pokemon, no Layton, no Tomodachi, etc.

Agreed and its Sony's first attempt into the handheld market to compete with Nintendo's giant. I'd say the PSP is very sucessful and im certain Sony will continue in the handheld market.

but even though it is very sucessful i dont want a PSP2...Sony do Home systems best
