didn't include multiplayer... cause that easily goes into the 10-20 hours even for the soso games.

Ideally i like games with 18hrs single player (e.g., re4) but that's hardly ever the case.
So basically, hours don't matter to me. It's the game that's more important.
Some games that are in the 6 to 9 hour range you really wouldn't want to have be to much longer. I'm trying to remember the length of portal though because it was really short but really amazing yet adding too much more to it really wouldn't work too well.
If a game has limited re-playability it's 10-12 hours. But if there is good re-playability then 3-5 hours is totally fine.

10+ Hours Minimum.
“Absolutely, we can do much more with it. I don’t know if we are even close to 50 percent of PlayStation 3’s power at this point,” said Asmussen about God of War 3. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
Depends on the genre as well. An action adventure like Uncharted could've lasted 41 hours and I would've still enjoyed it, although I know it's hard to keep that pace going for insane amounts of time.
An RPG that ends after 10 hours is laughable though.
Shooters are the genre that need longer single players though, because they often just tack on a singleplayer for the heck of it.
It depends heavily on the genre. Shooters, for instance, tend to get boring after more than 10 hours but RPG's may very well last 100 hours + if they're good!
I put 10 to 12. However, I tend to take a long time to finish most games least 2 or so more hours than most people I talk to on somewhat shorter games. I take it slow and try to find everything I can first go round. With JRPG's and exploring games it gets worse. say just on SNES I took 70 hours plus to finish FF4 and FF6. I have only ever finished one Pokemon game and that was Blue. I played it for a few months before beating it. I caught nearly every single Pokemon that was in blue , and they were all the same level when I beat it. I also never use guides or anything so that adds to my time. I can get stuck on silly things right in front of me too heh. Shooters add like 5 more hours to the normal single player time. I am not that good at them and I still take my time. Anyways

With no multi? I'd say 10 hours is my absolute minimum, and even then I would never spend $60 or even $50 on it.
I'd prefer episodic content. 10 minute minimum playtime. I have very little time to game these days. Would also be awesome for bathroom breaks at work, on a WinMo 7 phone.
Square could have done it with FFXIII. They broke that game down nicely. Fight 2 to 3 battles, then went to a cutscene or movie. It maybe would have even de-gimped the 360 version, due to stingey disc space usage and cheap developer not wanting to pay for more DVDs to burn to.
