Forums - Sony - Sony Responds To Nintendo 3DS Announcement

While yes your graph shows mass demographic no matter what age, you have to figure how long the DS has been out, people aging, and main focus of DS games.

Normal game products are either A. kids oriented or B. brain training which is popular with the older generations.

Ues there is still the middle ground with games like GTA Chinatown Wars and COD, but sill no one can ignore the majority of the content that exists.

There are many holes in the data presented here.

nice try buddy, lol at the "people aging" argument, couldn't come up with something better?

a graph is a graph, just because it happens to contradict what some Sony PR man said doesn't make THE GRAPH wrong. think about it...

Didn't Sony get the note that Nintendo products aren't only bought by 8 and 9 year olds?

sigh, how many times do we have to go over this? Despite what many of you claim, The DS is targeted towards a "kiddie" audience and the Wii is as well. The people who buy games like Final Fantasy, MGS, Uncharted and Halo are in the severe minority when it comes to Nintendo consoles, which is the audience Sony and Microsoft are pushing for.

Stop with the BS.

i refuse to believe that graph, i have NEVER seen a 34 year old man or woman with a NDS.......whehter anyone likes it or not...nintendo wants to hit a demographic that has do with kids, theres nothing wrong with it, but its just what they are MAINlY trying to do

Hmm, not saying I'm statistical relevant... but I'm 28 and I have 3 DSs. My brother is 32 and have a DS. My sister is 26 and yep, has a DS too.

A lot of my friends bought one or two, and they're all in theirs 26-30s. So, I don't find that strange at all. And I'm from a country where DS isn't even and official product - we all import! Imagine if there's ads to those age groups!

This graph is in reference to Japan. Unless I'm mistaken, note the (Tokyo, Osaka).

either way, it doesnt cover the DS population...its result has nearly no meaning to what the one who is posted it is trying to show

The basic idea he's trying to give is the appeal the Nintendo DS has to adults.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

OH and not only that, but its  sample of 3000....really?...thats um idk .000234 percent of the DS pop

Haha. So basically what you're saying is, I DO NOT ACCEPT THESE STATISTICS WITH A VERIFIABLE SOURCE AS THEY GO AGAINST MY CORE BELIEF WHICH I HAVE JUST THIS SECOND MADE UP ON THE SPOT.

no..i am saying i dont accept this source because it samples 3000 people out of the entire DS population...the sample number is weak compared to the total number...stop trying to make me look like an idiot...really, its just a debate nothing to get worked over about and go all caps on me >_>

haha no, he did not get owned...its a sample number of 3000, no where near the number of DS owners...this graph does not stay true to the gaming demographic of the ds....

You should get edumacated and learn some statistics. A sample size of a few thousand is damn good, even for an election poll.

It's much more than large enough to be statistically relevant with an acceptable margin of error. 3000 people polled is plenty.

Edit: Dammit NJ5

Well how about this extends that demographic?

duh.

I'll be getting one thats for sure.

extends it to the older demographic. But he didn't say anything about that. He just daid he cant see the younger ones playing it... which the graph shows has the most...

Clear case of people crying over spilt milk again.

what i am saying is that this graph does not show it considering the sample number...now if it was 20% or hell even 10%, i would agree to some sense, but the sample is less than one percent....yeah, could have asked anyone in that "interview survey"

You made yourself look like an idiot.

Let me give you a brief overview of polls. They take the general population. They find the demographics of said population. They use said demographics to create a sample that is representative of the perviously said general population. Then, they poll said sample.

^ This.

I suggest people watch a few more commercials. Those adverts where '86% of women agreed this shampoo is brilliant' usually contain a sample of just 100 people. 3,000 is a huge number for a sample.
