I hope it has a solid online infrastructure, 2 touch screens, and a "flip" screen so it can be viewed and held like an iPhone. Oh, and motion control would be nice.

Evidently I'm unfamiliar with the 3D TV no-glasses tech. That sounds like a plausible concept, if it doesn't require you to keep your head in a certain position. Viewing angle can be small, but not TOO small because people DO like to play from funny positions sometimes.

If it does have a camera it may be able to track your eyes to adapt the image accordingly. That's how the 3D TVs without glasses do it.

That could give some freedom in terms of head movement.

You had the hard news for breakfast, so how's about some less official, but still pretty robust, fodder for brunch? Asahi in Japan offers the first word on how the 3DS achieves its 3D-ness by suggesting that the new portable game machine with feature a parallax barrier LCD from Sharp. The tech has apparently already been deployed in a few cellphones over there and is described as "unsuitable" for large-screen TVs. This is corroborated by Nikkei, which suggests that the screens on the new device will be smaller than 4 inches diagonally, placing it closer to the DSi than the 4.2-inch DSi XL / LL. Other news from the latter source include so-called 3D control stick(s), though it's not entirely clear whether this'll be anything massively new or just a pair of analog nubs for us to push around. Either way, Nintendo is said to have secured patents for the new control methodology in Japan late last year. The Nikkei article also mentions improvements in WiFi transfers and battery life, as well as a new vibration function. Now that we've got all that out of the way, can someone please tell us if this thing has Tegra inside or not?

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

Well I agree with Kotaku's articles on this case.
http://kotaku.com/5499784/what-we-know-and-think-we-know-about-the-nintendo-3ds

Here's the stuff that's explicitly stated in the press release.

- That a new handheld, called the Nintendo 3DS, will be released sometime during Nintendo's next financial year (Apr 2010 - March 2011).

- It will be capable of producing 3D graphics, without the need for 3D glasses.

- The 3DS will be backwards compatible with the entire line of Nintendo DS products.

- It will be properly revealed during the E3 trade show in Los Angles, which will take place in June.

What We Think We Know

There are a few more details we can glean from the information above. This isn't confirmed, just stuff we suspect based on supporting evidence.

- The 3DS will feature 2 cameras (If it includes support for DSi software, it'll have to)

- It's an all-new line of hardware, not simply a new model of the DS. Despite having the letters "DS" in the name, it's a working title, and the use of terms like "backwards compatible" and the fact it's succeeding the "Nintendo DS series" sounds a lot like this is the first of Nintendo's next generation of handheld gaming devices.

- It'll use those cameras to track the movement of the handheld and/or the player. That movement will then be used to display the 3D effects, similar to the way recent DSi title 3D Hidden Picture handles things. In support of this, in an interview with a Japanese newspaper earlier this year, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said in relation to the company's next handheld "it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing".

The game in the clip above is called 3D Hidden Picture. It's a DSiWare puzzle game, available in Japan, that uses the DSi's camera to track the movement of the console, and adjust the image accordingly to make it appear "3D".

It's entirely feasible - taking into account Nintendo's obsession with keeping the cost of its hardware down - that Hidden Picture is a pointer towards how the 3DS will work.

The "flip" or "swivel" screen idea would be really nice. Doubtful, but nice.

Hmm, good point. I like your style, sir.

AH I forgot about the vibrative screen rumor! Man, the 3DS has SO MUCH to it. Dual screens, with it POSSIBLE that both will be touchscreens. POSSIBLE that there are as many as three cameras on it (one on the outside, *maybe* two on the inside vaguely similar to Natal). 3D screens. Force feedback. Motion sensing. MASSIVE graphical overhaul.

SO excited.

The new Pokemon games will be launch titles (but it will also release to the original DS a la Twilight Princess).

I agree with this entirely, Haxxiy. I think they'll be similar to the Gold/Silver generation in that they'll PLAY on the classic system, but they'll have COMPATIBILITY with 3DS-unique features.

You guys should be drooling by now.

Haha nice! This is basically what I'm talking about. OLED screens can literally be paper-thin, so it's entirely possible. Good job speculating about that before the 3DS was even announced.

New Pokémon games as launch titles when HG/SS released in the same year? Not happening.
