Forums - Sales - Whats the percentage of games sold on iTunes?

I was looking quite some time to figure out how much of itunes/ app store revenue is from game spendings or growth rates of game sales.

Didnt find anything pointing slightly in that direction. Just total revenue and that the game portfolio is the largest behind books...

do you know/ have seen something?

Itunes store sells music, movies and games for the ipod classic/nano
App store sells games for Ipod touch and Iphone

I assume you mean the app store? Becuase itunes store game sales are VERY low

Either way, Apple are the only company on Earth more hesitant than nintendo to give out info. Nobody will be able to answer your question I'm afraid

iTunes sells games too, it's just most people don't bother with the iPhone at least because of the App Store.

If your iPod Touch doesn't have 3G (which I think most don't) then you have to use iTunes.

Hmm, apparently someone can answer the OP's question. Still, this is a source we know nothing about, and they tell us nothing about what data they use or how the analyse it. Take with a grain of salt

@ twesterm - you can use the app store over any wifi network with a non 3g ipod touch

And if you're not on a Wi-Fi network?

Then you can't download off the internet at all cos the thing doesn't have an ethernet port :P

I'm not saying you can't hook up the ipod to a computer and download games that way, but I think Apple would still classify this under 'app store' rather than itunes store. Not a big deal either way though

App store has a 10MB ceiling for 3G anyway.  If you're downloading from the app store, you're almost always doing it over wifi.

And I'm just saying you can buy games off of iTunes (since I'm looking at iTunes right now). :-p

Just go to media type and select apps and you can buy whatever app you want, it's all ran through iTunes, not the App store.

It depends on what you're downloading, most apps don't hit that ceiling.  Some of the 3D games hit that ceiling but that's about it (and most of those suck anyways).
