19.008/19.631 = 0.968 . So XBox 360 got only 3.2 % more software sold this year so far. Which is impressive for Playstation 3, since 360 Mass Effect 2 released in Q1.

According to VGChartz ( :) ) 360 got 15% more installbase then Playstation 3.

PS3 also had some heavy hitters in MAG, Heavy Rain and FFXIII though. Guess things might turn with Halo Reach unless Sony gets GT5 out of the gates.

With GoW3 data this week, PS3 will got more Software sales this year for a little while

Add in Yakuza 4 which will help as well.

Should be interesting to see whether they can keep the software lead they get next week for a sustained period of time. Alan Wake might try to nibble some back, and games like fable III and Halo Reach are sure to post serious gains. Wonder how GT5 will help Sony

No one outside of this forum would believe that. Pretty interesting. It'll pull ahead this week.

Microsoft has at least two games that'll do over a million week one in Reach (dur) and Fable 3.

Reach should be the biggest game of 2010, followed by GT5? Overall those 2 games won't decide between the 2. It'll be all the sub-5 million selling releases of 2010 combined, and how good the legs are on the 2009 releases selling through 2010.

So does does Sony. GOW3 and GT5

I think VGC does a great job, but I have a hard time to believe this. It is always hard to say something like this without getting flamed or banned, but I will give it a shot.

The main tracking services like NPD, chart-track and Media Create are not showing this shift in sales.

NPD for US only really showed that Xbox 360 sells a lot of software. Bioshock 2 just topped the charts last month for example. Chart-track reported some strong Xbox 360 sales as well. Sure MAG, FFXIII and Heavy Rain had decent to good sales on the PS3, too. Media Create for Japanese sales is easy. But except the relaunch of RE 5, Star Ocean and RoF, there was no really big PS3 game in Japan this year. And those three combined sold like 400k this year.

Looking at worldwide sales for the PS3 software (especially older and smaller games) makes me wonder.

• GTA IV PS3 outsold Xbox 360 version 2:1 last week
• Madden NFL 10 PS3 outsold Xbox 360 version almost 3:1 (this game is basically US only)
• Sonics ultimate Genesis collection PS3 outsold Xbox 360 version almost 3:1
• UFC 2009 undisputed PS3 outsold Xbox 360 version 2:1
• Sega Allstar Racing PS3 outsold Xbox 360 version even though the Xbox 360 version has exclusive content
• Need for Speed shift sold 11k and was not even in the charts for Xbox 360, so at least 2:1
• Army of Two the 40th day PS3 outsold Xbox 360 almost 2:1 last week (The first one is still on the charts but only for the PS3)
• Red Faction Guerrilla is on the charts again for PS3 only.
• Same for CoD WaW and Dead Space.

I have no doubts that MAG, FF, Heavy Rain sold well, but I doubt that the older games sell way better on PS3 suddenly. especially with no tracking service confirming this in any way. And I doubt that Games on Demand is that big on Xbox 360 that it could eat so many retail-sales of the older games.

Old games sold because of platform newcomers and PS3 got and edge here.
