Forums - Sony - Possible for Sony to add Trophy support to PS1 titles?

what if i played them on PSP? you know i've been playing PSone games mostly these days on my PSP.

That is the one roadblock that I see. They could however still possibly find a way to use the remote play feature to let you sync your accomplishments to your PS3 if you own one.

The more PSP/PS3 connectability the better, am I right?

No... they'd have to be ports. Ripping GoW1 from the GoW collection and burning it to a DVD- it wouldn't run on a modded PS2 like a pirated PS2 game.

But these aren't running off of DVDs, they are running off of HDD.

Edit - Wow, I completely read that wrong. O_o

Not necessarily.  I don't think it would be too difficult to pull data from save files for trophies, or by monitoring memory usage to determine when trophies should be given.  After all, save game editors and trainers (basically unofficial cheats for PC games) have been doing this for years.  But I'm pretty sure the effort needed to a) come up with trophies for each game and b) implement trophies for each game isn't worth it.

Anyways, even if they need to be ports it only took 15 weeks to do the GoW collection. I am sure it would take less time to only add trophies to old PS1 classics and host them on PSN.

To me this would be just as good as a FFVII remake for now, especially if I could get more than 4-5 gold trophies in it.

It wouldn't be too hard either.

End of Disc 1 - Trophy

End of Disc 2 - Trophy

End of Game - Trophy

Beat Ruby - Trophy

Beat Emerald - Trophy

Get Gold Chocobo - Trophy

Find Knights of Round - Trophy

Get all materia - Trophy

Etc...

XBox owners should ask the same from MS when it comes to XBox titles on LIVE. If they added achievements to those XBox titles they would generate easy sales to achievement whores.

It makes perfect sense, to me anyways.

well now that you mentioned it, they can save the trophies on psp and when you plug it by USB you can sync the trophies.

I second it.

Would boost sales for everyone involved (Sony/MS/Publisher/Devs, whoever) and make the customers happy.

Exactly!

This would be the one incentive I could find for current PS1 title owners to actually repurchase their games.

They could use it to experiment to see if it would be worthwhile to pursue this same avenue when PS2 titles inevidably reach PSN.

If it is successful they could start right away with trophy enabled PS2 classics.

The thing is, you'd have to port the game for that to work. PS1 classics are just the original games, only done for it to work with the PS3 or the PSP, but they're still PS1 games that are being emulated, the actual code of it is still that of a PS1 game using a PS1 architecture.

On the other hand, to add trophies, you have to alter the code itself of the game, because the trophy has to activate somewhere, you gotta put some flags. And how you're gonna tell the PS1 architecture for which the game is done that "after you beat this you get a gold trophy". You'd have to not only add the trophies, but simply redo all the game for it to run not on emulation, but as a true PS3 game. Now, that doesn't mean it wouldn't be worth it for SOME games, but it's not a 5 minute port, more like a full-fledged port of the game, no different than a remake
