Because all of you are saying the PS3 will outsell the 360 before the gen ends and at the same time 360 owners are saying the 360 will outsell the ps3 when the gen ends. So for insrtance, if the ps4 launched today, would the 360 be considered to outsell the ps3 for then gen?

OT: When the first next gen console launches, which I believe will be MS. It seems like Sony is dedicated to keeping the PS3 for 10 years. I just hope that MS keeps supporting the 360 like Sony did with the PS2 for a little while at least. Nintendo could surprise us all with a "Super Wii" but right now they are just swimming through their gold coins laughing at the "hardcore" consoles, so I'm unsure why they would.

Just kidding. I'm going to have to go with when the first console is released. Because it won't be soon after that the other companies release theirs. And this time, I think it will be Nintendo that unveils and releases their console first. So most likely Sony and Microsoft are hurrying to make their consoles faster than their 2015 prediction.

i always thought the current generation ended when all the new consoles were released (but that doesn't mean the older consoles can't still have new games and sell more consoles (obviously))

however, the new generation starts when ONE company releases a new console, but again that doesn't mean the old one has necessarily ended

I think it ends when two new consoles are released. I wouldn't say when one console releases because if a wii 2 was released today then I wouldn't say that this gen is over.

When Farmville 2 is released. When Farmville 2 releases it will draw the last era to a close and bring forth a new one at the same time.
