Forums - Microsoft - Naughty Dog founder: "Natal might revolutionise more than gaming"

I don't think TVs will ever get rid of remotes but will have something like natal as an alternative.
The kitchen is a good point. If fridges and ovens already have a tv or internet on them then why not have this so no remote cluttering the place.
There's also the bathroon. There's talks of TV and the internet in the mirror used for shaving so why not have this as a remote? As you're so close to the mirror have a button you press to activate it so you aren't suddenly changing channels, sending emails, switching on your hidden porn stash at full volume whilst shaving.

Watching porn while shaving, sound like a cut throat to me!

I was just thinking about fitness and dance games for Natal, but this about kitchen applications could be really handy, when you cook you can have often the hands dirty of oil, flour, grease, onion, dough, batter, etc, so not having to touch a keyboard or a remote or a touch screen, while, for example, consulting recipes online could be a welcome innovation.

Stwike him, Centuwion. Stwike him vewy wuffly! (Pontius Pilate, "Life of Brian")
A fart without stink is like a sky without stars.
TGS, Third Grade Shooter: brand new genre invented by Kevin Butler exclusively for Natal WiiToo Kinect. PEW! PEW-PEW-PEW!

@mummelman Or if you swirtch hands quickly without putting down...
Never mind.

AlbadaWolf. Good point. Never thought of that. Using the tech in the kitchen to help with what the kitchen is actually for.

Not a proper way of saying it, I would say "Natal will revolutionize things that are not gaming related". As a gaming approach, I have the feeling it will fail, as an interactive way of getting in touch with the interface of things it may be exciting. I think that, if it works, selecting things in the menu by moving your hands alone would be pretty awesome, but in gaming it will be nothing, at least for me. Maybe it will have some fun integrations here and there within games that will be mainly controlled by a controller but that would be all.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Someone please enlighten me why Natal is "teH revolutionz of liFe"

Motion sensing? Voice Recognition?

...am i missing anything?

All of this things have been seen way before on cellphones, cars, cameras, computers, and in gaming with pseye, etc.

I just fail to see the revolution in Natal. Sure, it could be used for some things in specific situations like the ones stated above, but that is FAR from a revolution as stated. Natal is just a good idea to implement motion sensing on Xbox360.

[now...a REAL revolution was Wii] :P

If you are working on new ideas then god help the world. All you have done is ignore people and think within the small box you live in. you have offered no ideas yourself and for someon whos apparent job is just that shows me that you are either lying about what you do, very bad at what you do or hate the product so much you wont allow yourself to see any positive in it.
you shoot down any ideas put before you because you can't see any use for you. Very self-serving. So you don't go to museums but I do and love the little tours and I'm impressed with how they incorporate new technologies to keep you entertained and educated. Never been on an interactive tour?

I guess my point is why would you use natal. Same as yours but i'll go one further you wouldn't use natal because you don't want to. Thats fine. it's your option. Don't ruin it for the rest or act like you opinion, and thats all it is, is more important than mine. I CAN see a use for it, for me and i am excited so to read your bouts of negativity is simply put. Tedius. you add nothing due to your closed mind.
you don't have to like it but then you don't have to shoot it down every chance you get. if you can't comprehend that others can see a use or that the ideas put forth are interesting to themand  maybe useful then you really should not ask "Tell me more" because you only want that to say "I don't need that" so neither does anyone else
Then you criticise it without trying it like you're an expert.
Do you need to have everything explained to you in every minute detail before you take the plunge? We don't all live in your grey world.

completely unnecessary i refuse to even engage anymore in this, way out of line.

The thing is, youre telling me im being closed minded but im not saying anything about YOUR OPINION, im simply saying i dont see the answers to REVOLUTIONIZE things, there are cool applications but thats not revolutionary. You seem mor eintent on shouting me down with personal insults I never said you were wrong, im simply asking for reasons form people on the inside saying these things. Never even said anything about your opinion or whether or not Natal might be awesome for you or even thousands of people.

I guess i have a different idea about what "revolutionize" means than people that are willing to say cooking while looking at recipies (hint its not you can print off single page recipes and keep your hands dirty) Its cool, very cool idea, never denied that, never said the tech was useless or that it wasnt any good, simply said whats being talked about by people on this forum is niche, not revolutionary. Your very examples are niche, not revolutionary.

Next time maybe try to debate like a grown up without personal insults, it can go a long way in giving your points of view credibility and encouraging honest, mature debate.

^I agree

What I am really hoping for in Minority Report on my PC. Would be amazing with the right interface as well. The fact Gates came out and said that it was being developed for Windows as well made me extremely happy. Can't wait.
