Forums - Gaming - Why don't Publishers market their games a month after release?

it seems that publishers only (Hardly) market a game before release and when it releases they make a lame commercial for launch , then these ads on the internet stay for a week and then suddenly the game disappears.

so why?

as for another question for that matter , why doesn't publishers market a game if it didn't do well to make people AWARE of it? its like they WANT their games to sell like crap. (i am looking at you SCE + White Knight Chronicles) only advert i saw about that game was on VGChartz.

when ? they only did something on VGchartz and the rest is just word of mouth.

plus if they really did then that might be why they had a sales boost, so why do publishers hate sales?!

Well first I think that marketing is most important right before release, the game will be new, you have the chance to be the "first" to play it, it's the talk of the community and slowly building the expectations all help selling gangbusters in the first week.

WKC wasn't well recieved by critics, it's a relatively old JRPG rerelease in the west, it's not console selling title. I don't think this game could sell more even with massive marketing. Also keep in mind, that every week there are new and new games getting their releases and these need their media spotlight aswell, so it's pretty logical to have the marketing for the first week on sale and later let someone else take over. AAA games like God of War which are quality titles and sell consoles deserve that much more marketing. WKC really isn't that case.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

Because by that point used sales are to predominant, no point spending money to advertise a game that will be bought used.
