Forums - Gaming - Were you gaming in the 1980s?

When I turned 5 years old, back in 1987, I got a NES from my parents, and have very fond memories of games such as the three Mario Bros games, Ducktales, Castlevania, Contra, MegaMan, Zelda, etc...my older brother had an Atari 2600 which he got in 1979, but I never really played it much...started with the NES and didn´t look back...I´ve read about the 'crash' that happened in 1983 (I was 1 year old lol) and how the NES revitalized the U.S. console market (of course, back then I had no idea all these things had happened)...but anyway, a few gaming related stuff from the 80s that I remember:

- the company Sunsoft (remember that one?...Batman and Gremlins 2 for the NES, for example)

- the Nintendo craze (I still think that, relative to its time, the NES craze was even bigger than the Wii...anyone remember the Nintendo cereal?)

- the very fist issue of Nintendo Power (I still remember that one, it had Mario Bros 2 on the cover)

So, were you gaming in the 1980s?...if you were, what are some things you remember?...if you weren´t, have you any idea how things were?

I was born in 1991, and started gaming pretty much as soon as I could walk and talk. We had a Genesis (or Mega Drive as it is known here) and a Master System. The Master System came with Alex Kidd in Mystery World "installed" on it, so it played that if no cartridge was inserted. Good times.

@Rol

What company manufactured that system?

@Greyian

Did you like the Genesis and the Master System?

@Kowenicki

What 70s system(s) did you own?

I was getting ready to live in 1990, there was no time to play games then.

The 80's were awesome for games, genres were still being invented and we played stuff that never existed before. It was all very fresh. These days it's pretty much the same stuff with better graphics although at least the Wii changed that a bit.

that sounds terrible lol, im actually really happy with my age =D

Yes my first game I ever played was Ice clambers

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints
