Forums - Sony - Report: PS3 shortages could hinder God of War III sales

i can't take this serious, God of War has never been a seller to the point where system sales would hurt it

And how would you know? did you check hardware boosts for the two PS2 games?  And more importantly, let's say -hypothetically- GOW1 and GOW2 weren't big hardware movers, does that mean the GOW franchise didn't get strong recognition and fanbase to be TODAY a major franchise? Remember it launched succesfully a prequel on the PSP? and the GOW collection has sold more than 600K in USA alone? Remember GOW2 for PS2 debuted in 2007. Yes, 2007 when HD, and Wii and 360 were all the rage?

Please don't doubt GOW3's power based on foolish assumptions, it has built a large fanbase and it will rake in the dollars. As Tretton says, it's not ideal they are having shortages precisely now, but GOWIII will continue to sell and will well lots of PS3 this year and the next. Or do you think Mario Kart Wii stopped selling Wiis or Halo 3 stopped selling 360s after the first 3 or 4 months? I'm not saying GOW3 is THAT big for Sony, but it's quite big. I'd dare say it's almost as big as Metal Gear Solid.

The previous two God of War games sold 8 million copies combined for PlayStation 2, and Sony executives are confident that the follow-up, the first in the series available for PlayStation 3, will be a multimillion seller as well.

Are these numbers from Sony?

this site has about the same number for GoW 1&2 combined

GoW 3.21m

GoW2 2.61m

I bought my god of war today and best buy had no PS3's.

I'd be thinking the retailers might be receiving deliveries of PS3's Thursday or Friday in time for the weekend.

Interesting thing is that even before launch day here GoWIII has already been discounted by some retailers (JB HiFi) to below the normal new release launch price. $30 less than some new release games in fact (e.g. Dragon Age: Origins). But demand has been high with all Ultimate Trilogy packs selling out (pre-ordered) a couple of weeks ago.

I don't think we have any HW shortages to speak of, but then again I'm pretty sure Sony makes a small profit every time they sell a console in my country.

You're off by almost 2 million, I'm sorry, but I can't take you seriously.

News just in: Only new console owners will get GOW3, forget about the already existing numbers...

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.
