Forums - Gaming - I got Final Fantasy 13(Opinion from a RPG hater)

ok guys  i finally bought the game and i m in chapter 4 now.(the game has to wait as i have many exams and GOWIII to play)

the game is a pure eye candy.it has some flat surface textures here and there but overall the whole color palet and graphics are eye candy big time,

now to the things i did not like very much:

what the hell is the story about(can some one seriously without spoiling it explain to me?they become l'aci which is against cocoon and they should turn to crystall?lol)

how do you level up for weapons and abilities??The select button is so confusing.what is the difference between levelling up and crystalline or whatever that increases HP and stuff. It does a poor job of explaining how everything works.

what are the items you collect?i have many items but i don't know what they are for.

the battle is beautiful but you are not doing much just pressing X all the time and changing stance from time to time.

the thing i hate the most:

when you wanna fight a single enemy the screen has to pause and take you into a battle areana and then rate you.there was a part in the game that there were 5 enemies with 10 meter distance from one another and i ahd to go to fight arena with every single one of them seprately.

there are no talkings to random character in oreder to get info on boring towns so that's a plus.,it is very linear which is another plus for me.

the fights are not as intense as i hoped it to be.

overall I give it an 8.0/10

so i definately understand the appeal to RPG crowd.

I'm about 6 hours into the game. This is what I get from the story:

They story is fairly simple. You're in a world were there are these robot demons called fal'Cie which can give humans magical powers through a curse. Once cursed you are given visions which tell you what your focus is... this is like your mission. If you fail you'll turn into an abomination. If you pass you will live forever in a crystal. If you're cursed you're called a l'Cie.

There's some politics. There's a good fal'Cie, Eden, in the sanctum, and a bad fal'Cie Pulse. It seems like each fal'Cie uses humans to war with each other.

The story is Lightning and a few others are cursed after trying to save Lightnings sister/ Snows fiance. Now they're being hunted because they are cursed by the Pulse fal'Cie, which makes people believe they have a focus that will harm the people in Cocoon.

Battle get better with time.

Over all it's a great game.

Did you really by it just because it was pretty?

I know people that criticize a game (such as Uncharted 2) and doesnt really play it yet still buys it because it looked pretty overall.  Bunch of 'graphic whores', not saying SpartanFX is one though lol

i bought it cause i wanted to give RPG genre a try to see if i like it after 4 -5 years of not playing one.the graphics was a pushing factor to pick FF13 over say SO4.

this is suppose to be a RPG but most people describe it as an adventure game (like uncharted that is action adventure shooter, so is linear) but with a RPG battle system :'(

If you don't understand the story then you should read Final Fantasy XIII Episode Zero. It leads up to the story and explains some things.

Can read it here.

I like the battle system... but for a graphics powerhouse it was supposed to be... im a little disapointed... most of the CG battles and enviroments suffer from "Michael Bay Syndrome" (as i like to call it) A lot of explotions and way too complex that borders on overwhelming. IMO

My advice: Read the datalog it will explain the story and the game mechanics both.
