Just through giving reasons why Microsoft should purchase Epic Games, now we’ve learnt that the studio completely owns the Gears of War IP and can do whatever they want with it. I had no doubts that Epic owned Gears, however some rumors claimed Microsoft purchased a piece of it. Not so says Rein, speaking in an interview with VG247 at GDC last week.
“We own Gears of War. We can do what we want with it,” Rein said. “We have a great relationship with Microsoft, and they helped turn the game into a huge success for us, and we are pretty happy with the way things are going”.
This backs up a comment Rein made on our site back in January, when analyst Michael Pachter offered the opinion that Epic “regretted” making the Gears series exclusive to Xbox 360.
So, will the game go Multiplatform? After all the man said they could do “anything” with it.
Would be funny if at e3 sony announces gears 3 as multi just like MS announced FF13 back in 07 maybe thats why its taking them 3 yrs to come out with gears 3 instead of 2 (i believe gears 3 will come out 2011) it takes a longer time to develop a AAA game for both the PS3 and 360
