Forums - Microsoft - We owe Bungie an apology....

I got my ODST for 9.99 new =) So it was an AWESOME deal for me.

That said, it's still a great game. I got through SP the first time in about 3.5 hours (with a friend, normal mode, I literally ran the whole time, rarely took cover, just to get through it with him quickly). At the fastest, I could probably do it in 3 hours, but that's like playing Uncharted on Easy and running through it. It might take 8 hours total due to those "incredibly tricky puzzles" but that's the only reason that it would take so long.

Playing at your personal difficulty level should probably take you about 6-9 hours for ODST, decent length for a SP campaign. Then there's firefight which is awesome. And free maps if you didn't get them in H3. And Reach beta. Easily worth 40-60 if you like the game.

This goes for any game, but if you don't like it, it's probably not even worth $10 to you. So saying "I don't like it, so it's not worth $60" is kind of moot and biased.

...for criticizing the price of ODST. Now before you bash this thread read my points and tell me you don't agree. For $60 you get:

1. Brand new campaign (on the somewhat short side 6-8 hrs but up to 10 hrs with exploration)

2. Firefight mode (all new multiplayer mode similar to Gears of War's Horde)

3. Every Map Pack released for Halo 3 (total of 24 multiplayer maps)

4. Halo 3 multiplayer (for new 360 owners who haven't purchased Halo 3 yet this is huge..you can play Halo 3 online without buying it)

4. Access to Halo:Reach Beta (arguably worth $60 itself)

...and Activision owes us an explanation.  For $15 you get:

1. 5 multiplayer maps (2 of which are on MW1)

So honestly ODST is not such a bad deal after seeing how Activision wants to rip us off on this new map pack.

3 and 4 are useless for everyone who has Halo 3 then, since they had that already

your second number 4, was that already known when the game came out? If not, not valid, as people did not pay that money because of some distant beta. If it is true, then it's paying for something that's free anyway...

1 and 2 do not justify 60 dollars. Besides, before the game came out and the price went to 60 dollars, every fan justified it. Afterwards, most then pointed to "it's only an expansion pack" when the 'low' sales were criticized. If it's an expansion pack, 60 dollars is overpriced.

you totally killed his thread LOL

Activision is greedy but Bungie is as well, Bungie is even greedier
Thats why I love Sony, Killzone 2 mappack with 6 maps and trophies for 8$ but actually only 2$ because you can share on the psn

You know MS were the ones that wanted to price it at $60 not bungie (although they probably didn't mind the extra revenue)

But yeah $60 bucks for ODST is a little steep imo, but i will definitely be picking it up in the near future to play the beta.

The Orange Box:

1. 15 hour campaign
2. 4 hour campaign
3. 5 hour campaign
4. Best puzzle game ever
5. Completely new multiplayer game (now with tons of maps)
6. Incredible amount of free mods
Cost when new: 50$

Just because the ODST deal seems reasonable compared to the MW2 map pack doesn't make it good value for money.

That's pointless to bring up. What game has good value comparitively to the Orange Box?

It's 3 new maps 2 old ones and it's a expensive map pack (because Activision is greedy) not an expansion pack, ODST is a expansion pack sold as a game.

A. No one paid full price for ODST unless suckers or they made no effort at all to look around, even on launch day. Everywhere had it for $10 off or coming with gift cards, etc.

B. I agree that some people didn't get full value out of the game, but that was your choice. If you play the campaign solo, do some co-op and play just one full match of firefight on each level, you're easily at 20-ish hours. If you do any of the achievements and challenges you are well over that. So yes, if people just play through the story and are done, it's short.

But that wasn't the point of the game. The point of the game was to explore and experiment and to play co-op.

The more time I've spent with it, the more I like it. (See gamer card as proof I am still enjoying the game - just played again last night.) Here's hoping Firefight makes a return in Reach (with matchmaking!). While not full featured like H3, it's a quality package. Many, many games are released full price with less content and quality.

To me it was a $40-50 game with a $10 map pack built in. And if you had NOT bought H3, it's an exceptional value getting all the MP.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Anything with the name Halo sells cuz it has a huge following. Pretty sure it must have been MS and not Bungie who made the pricing decision on this matter. Reason is obvious, defend all you want but 60 for an extra long expansion pack whose content was available for others as well via Live in a few months is just wrong. Hope Reach will take Halo back to the Halo 2 days.

Would it be better if we compared an expansion to an expansion?

Brood War for Starcraft was just $25, Lord of Destruction for Diablo 2 was $30. Either WoW expansion was $30, and they added more content than about 2 full game combined. UT2004's Edidtor's Choice pack was a free download.

I'm sure there are a ton of other expansions I am just nothinkging of, like Dawn of War 1's, that put ODST to shame and also cost half as much.

That's the entire point! What game doesn't appear like good value for money put side by side such expensive DLC? You shold always compare to your own wallet and preferences. What is the game worth to you?
