Forums - Gaming - BioShock 2 DLC already on Disc

Short story shorter:

The Bioshock 2 DLC that came out was only several KBs. Turns out all that did was unlock content already on the disc. This is what 2K had to say about it:

"The way our engine and game structure works is that people need to have the exact same content for people to play together. One of the challenges with post launch content for MP is that it can split the player base, and we want to avoid that whenever possible. For this content, creating the DLC package the way we did allowed for us to not split the player base – so whether you purchase the new content or not, you can still play with your friends."

Whoop-dee-doo?

I don't like the direction they're taking the industry with this, but nobody is going to stop buying it, so it will continue.

I don't reward companies for garbage DLC. Huge expansion or gtfo

You don't find problems with the fact you are paying for content you have already bought?

I don't really care.

We either get it on the disc and just save someone the server bandwitdth or download it later needlessly wasting bandwitdth and time, either way, it's pretty much the same result for us.  Does it really matter?

There's really no point in getting worked up over it.

in my opinion it doesn't matter if its already an the disc, it's even better, because you don't have to download it...

also you can't say its really DLC. AODC is the right term (already on disc content)^^

Hell, if I buy a disc, I want everything on that disc. Maybe it's my '90s talking, but whatever is on that disc belongs to me the moement I receive it, every piece of it. Charging for unlocking data already on the disc is fundametally wrong. I honestly can't even give a damn about someone's bandwdith, if they want to be paid then they should have some expenses as well.

I can't get over the fact that they create this DLC during the development of the main game and then sell it seperately. Either they planned to put this on the disc form the start or they took away people that could have worked on making the core game better to work on DLC while the main game is still in development.

But with launch DLC (Especially if it isnt very creative) I always give them the benefit of the doubt. As in it could be possible that they only finished it after the game went gold....

But when you put the content on the disc then its just wrong.

Actually, you couldn't be more wrong and are falling for a common misconception.

You aren't paying for the content on the disc, you're paying for the license to use it.  That license does not cover the DLC, it only covers the game itself.  If you want to use that DLC, you have to buy the proper license.
