Do I need a psn id to play move? Didn't think so. Played move at my friend, kinect at my other. I don't have a move and I dont have a kinect. I'm just saying with what I had the best ecpercience and that everyone needs to try them both before saying kinect is the best! or move is the best just because it's from mc or sony :)

i already tried kinect, unfortunately i was not impressed, and i knew you didn't own a ps3 that is why i asked you for your psn id, let me know when kinect does game like killzone 3 with move support, then maybe i will be interested

I don't think devices suchas move or kinect ar meant to play hardcore games on. The bottom line of motion gaming is having fun with friends and not playing a shooter (alone). So it doesn't bother me as long there are great games wich i can play with friends evrything is ok. Isn't that the most important? Having fun with friends :)

echochrome ii Coming to PSN on December 21!

Posted by Kumi Yuasa // Producer, SCEA

Wow, it’s been some time since our last game update so I am very excited to announce that echochrome ii will be available for your holiday gaming pleasure on December 21st! And if you’re already enjoying PlayStation Move and our vast library of Move titles, then echochrome ii will be a great addition to your collection.

If you didn’t see my last post and are curious as to what echochrome ii is all about, it’s a unique puzzle game using the PlayStation Move motion controller to shine a light on a series of blocks and objects to create realistic shadows on the wall. The blocks and objects you see in each level will cast different shadows depending on your movement so as you alter the perspective and angles by adjusting this light source, you will manipulate the shadows they cast to ultimately reveal a solution to the puzzle and guide your character to the exit. You can check out some actual gameplay in the video above.

Once you check out the game for yourself I think you’ll enjoy how it uses PlayStation Move in this rather unique and original way. The best way to think of it is to treat the controller like a flashlight that you shine on these objects to manipulate the shadow within the scenery—this is actually one of the ideas that helped the dev team come up with the concept.

echochrome ii has 100 built in levels and there are three different ways to enjoy each one. Navigating the character to the goal by creating a shadow path is called “escort” mode. Additionally, there is “echo” mode and “paint” mode. In “echo” mode, the objective is to collect the ghost-looking characters called “echo.” You will see a few of them in each level, so collect them all to clear the stage.

In “paint” mode, the characters are colored in red, green, or blue. When the characters walk, they will color any blocks that are creating the shadows they’re walking on. A red character makes a red block and a blue character makes a blue one. Each time you color a block, your clear percentage will increase. Your goal is to reach the target percentage to clear the level.

with thanks to ethomaz

PlayStation Move Heroes Preview

  • by Matt Cabral
  • December 10, 2010 18:14 PM PT

We play as Ratchet--in Sly Cooper's world!--in Sony's mascot mixing, PlayStation Move-enabled, action-packed entry

What we're talking about: PlayStation Move Heroes, Nihilistic Software's upcoming Sony stars- and sidekicks-featuring Move title.

Where we saw it: SCEA and Nihilistic Software brought the latest build to Sony's 2010/2011 private press preview event in New York City.

What you need to know:

  • PlayStation Move Heroes, previously Heroes on the Move, brings Sony's stable of stars--Ratchet, Jak, Sly, and their sidekicks--together for an arcadey and accessible Move-controlled romp.

  • Based on settings from the stars' respective franchises, nearly 60 levels task players with a variety of challenges--shooting, rescuing, collecting objects--often under a time constraint. The quick-hit missions last between 3-5 minutes and ramp in difficulty as the player progresses.

  • Most characters are playable in all areas, so it‘s not unusual to find Sly sleuthing through Jak's Haven City or Jak battling in Sly's Paris. Supported by vibrant visuals based on the three series' graphical presentations, nearly all characters, environments, enemies, and weapons will be recognizable to fans of the iconic franchises.

  • Playing as Ratchet, armed with his trusty Plasma Whip, our demo took us through Sly's cel-shaded Paris. Here we were tasked with taking out hordes of Deathbots, while collecting crystals to amp a special power, the Groovitron, which Ratchet fans will recall sets enemies dancing under a disco ball. We also smashed baddies to bits with a standard whip flail and a flame-whip attack, powered by holding the Move controller above our shoulder for a few seconds.

  • We also got a brief taste of a Bentley--Sly's sort-of sidekick--level that saw the genius turtle facing similar threats in Paris. Navigating the landscape in his hovercraft, the nerdy reptile blasted the metallic bullies with a shotgun-like Blaster (from the Ratchet series) and used his special power to hack into their robot brains, which turned them against each other.

  • PMH supports co-op play, but Nihilistic isn't revealing any details just yet.

Point in development cycle: Based on our brief time behind the Move, PMH--due out in the spring--seems to be pretty far along the development path.

My take: It's important to have you’re expectations in the right place when approaching PMH. Despite its high profile stars and sidekicks, it's not intended as a new chapter in any of the characters' series; those anticipating it as a Sly sequel just because Sly's in it, may be disappointed. However, approach it as an arcadey Move entry that happens to feature some of Sony's most recognizable anthropomorphic stars, and you're in for a real treat. Following a light learning curve, I found the controls intuitive; the navigation controller handles basic character movement, while the motion controller aims and fires your main weapon. Wielding Ratchet's whip was quite satisfying, and actually had us wondering what an Indiana Jones game might be like behind the Move. The game's visuals also impressed, retaining the charm and personality of the character's respective environments. The mascot mash-up concept also worked surprisingly well; checkered-clothed patio tables and the Eiffel Tower totally put us in Sly's world, while Deathbots being reduced to piles of nuts, bolts and scrap metal reminded us we were in Ratchet's boots. Accessible gameplay, well-implemented Move support, and a fan-pleasing cast of characters could finally give Sony's motion-sensing peripheral its killer app.

Killzone 3 Move preview: Point and shoot

92
Two months from now, Sony will launch its latest salvo in the first-party, first-person shooter wars, Killzone 3. While we've already taken a look at the game's single-player (in 3D) and multiplayer modes, we've previously only see a brief video demonstration of another one of its bullet-point features: PlayStation Move support.

I spent a good part of the past week playing the latest pre-release version of Killzone 3, examining the ups and downs of using Move (with the companion navigation controller) in place of the standard DualShock 3 controller. After making the initial, somewhat awkward adjustment to literally pointing-and-shooting Helghast troopers, I can say that my experience has ultimately been a positive one.

One of the goals of merging motion controls with the console FPS genre has always seemed to be to bring the experience closer to the quick precision offered with mouse and keyboard controls (as opposed to a gamepad). While playing Killzone 3 with Move does introduce a degree of precision in aiming more akin to mouse control, there's more to it than that.

For one, when you aim using the Move controller, the on-screen gun doesn't follow immediately -- just the crosshairs, which turn red over enemies and yellow when you're pointing at foes that are behind cover. Your gun trails behind the reticule's movement a bit, giving the impression that there's some heft to it; rather than the way it works in, say, Quake, where the gun and crosshairs are always in sync.

The Move is dead-on.

When playing with Move, I actually shot "from the hip" more than I aimed "down the sights" (as I would with the DualShock), primarily because the Move controls are precise enough to do so. Where I'd normally need to aim down the sights (i.e., zoom in) with a gamepad to target specific body parts on an enemy, I was shooting Helghan kneecaps and helmets with ease from the standard, hip-level view with Move. Of course, you can still zoom in with Move as needed -- like when enemies are taking cover -- but that's when the motion-control setup throws a curve ball: The crosshairs automatically "snap" to the nearest enemy when you pull the zoom-trigger on the navigation controller. In fact, the bad guys become framed in a glowing rectangle, and your gun automatically moves when they do, tracking them. It's a lock-on mechanic, and it made the game too easy for me.

While I suppose some players might appreciate this level of aiming assistance, I was thankful to find an option to toggle it off in the pause menu. In addition, there's the requisite sensitivity adjustment, in case the reticule is darting around the screen too quickly (or dragging along too slowly) for your tastes.

Holding down the primary, zigzagging "Move" button allows you to crouch and, when near cover, to stick to it, and I definitely prefer this new cover control to how the mechanic is executed with the DualShock. I was also impressed with how accurately I could aim with the Move when zooming down the sights of the gun, even with the auto-aim assist turned off. It was as if I was shining a laser pointer on my target, and any sense of the gun's momentum that sometimes causes me to "over-aim" when I'm using a gamepad's analog stick was gone. The Move is dead-on.

Smashing in a Helghast's face -- or stabbing him, snapping his neck, and so on -- is equally satisfying and as easy as thrusting the Move controller forward. Actually, "thrusting" makes it sound like it takes more effort than it really does. The Move is excellent at picking up subtle movements, and in this case, a gentle poke suffices for a melee kill. A similarly gentle shake of the Move controller reloads your weapon, so you don't have to take your thumb off the crouch button in order to press the Square-button and pop in a fresh clip (though you can do that).

So, after lots of playing on the Move, I decided to go back to using the standard controller. I have to say, it wasn't easy. While turning the character's head and body is quicker with an analog stick, the Move is much more precise at aiming within the character's current field of vision. I was also now more aware of the (frequent!) times I had to take my thumb off of the right stick to reload with a button press.

While I don't anticipate playing Killzone 3 in 3D, I am now committed to using the Move for my first full playthrough of the game. Not only does its integration seem justified to me, but I'm sold on its improved accuracy and greater sense of immersion over the DualShock controller. Guerrilla Games has shown me that even when a game isn't expressly designed for motion controls, the experience can be heightened with PlayStation Move.

As a Wii owner since launch, and someone that has seen the evolution of pointer controls for FPS games from the very beginning, I'm very qualified to tell you that pointer controls are faster, smoother and more accurate than dual analog controls. And this isn't an opinion but a cold hard fact.

As long as the customisation options are well designed once you customise your controls to find your sweet spot you won't want to use dual analog sticks ever again for an FPS game. They'll feel clunky in comparison.

I'm not entirely happy with the customisation options with MAG, they don't feel anywhere near as tight as the controls and customisation that has been commonplace on the Wii FPS games from The Conduit onwards. If Guerilla Games 'borrow' the control customisation options from The Conduit then the game will be fantastic.
