DR. Richard Marks

"I think Move is good for adding a spatial dimension to existing experiences. The thing people don’t quite realise yet is that it is a completely new way to interact. It is a 3D virtual reality kind of device, where if there’s a 3D scene you can reach directly into the screen, manipulate things and navigate around the space in a new way. That’s the part that I think hasn’t quite dawned on everyone yet. We don’t yet have enough experiences showing it, but we’re starting to get those."

Take note on this very statement:

"It is a 3D virtual reality kind of device, where if there’s a 3D scene you can reach directly into the screen, manipulate things and navigate around the space in a new way."

If you see where this is going, Sony is pushing 3D with Glasses as a good way to go, for one it's cheaper and 2nd the experience is more closed to avoid outside enviroment stimuli interfereing with the game play experience.

what was this know as...?

that's right a very viable, cost effective base "VR SIMULATOR"

I too finally got my hands on the two Move controllers (plus Sports Champions) that I pre-ordered. It took 10 days to arrive, and I got a bit worried at one time, but now that they are here, it's all ok :).

So here are my notable observations about the Move so far:

- the four face buttons are small, true, but they are also easily pressed and have good tactile feedback, no problem finding the one you need, after a bit of getting used to it.

- calibration: Sports Champions asks you to point the contoller at the camera and press Trigger and Move buttons together, but if you do that, the reticule in the menus will be below (in m case, as the camera sits on top of my tv) where you point it. I pointed the controller at the center of my screen when calibrating after and the pointer was more in line with the controller.

- Beach Volley: played it with my girlfriend (who played volley ball and beach volley ball at a semi professional level). I was not sure what to expect (feared that she'll have it) but we both loved it. It turns out that apart from direct control over the placement of your character, you can pretty much do everything else: jump serve, serve strength and direction control (she can serve flat and strong like in RL, I can't ... like in RL), spike direction and  block direction control, and dive after the ball. It's not apparent at first, but it seams the game has decent depth. Nice.

- I struggled with archery a bit, meaning that enough times I ended up pointing an imaginary shot 2 meter above the TV to hit something on screen. (Just like I did in Wii Sport Resort archery) Other times the alignment between imaginary and on screen was good. It might be something one can learn. Other than that, i ruled in archery.

- Gladiator Dues has weapon parry, which is all you need in a sword fighting game, but I didn't have a chance to hone my parry skills since i was too busy obliterating the CPU's ass on bronze level.

- Disk golf and Table tennis were harder than they looked but nice, and the first bocce game was boring cause the CPU sucked.

Overall: YAY :))

Edit: Oh and btw, HUGE lag...from my TV. I kinda expected that :(. Not a problem in Sports Champions (I refuse to call any game SC but Star Craft :P), but it might be a big problem in shooters...we'll see.

Nice reading, thanks. But what do you mean by lag from your TV? That scared me D:

LCD TV's introduce lag, the image takes a little while to update. Compared to old style CRT TVs it's extremely obvious. The difference between the visual lag I experience on the Wii at work (running on a big LCD TV) and on a friends Wii (running on an old small CRT TV) is huge. On the CRT TV the pointing action is immediate and navigating menus is a pleasure. On the LCD TV there's noticeable lag in menus. The same with my Move on my LCD TV.

Oh god, I'm scared now D: My LCD TV is very simple, I hope it doesn't ruin my experience. My Starter pack haven't arrived yet, but I have a PS Move already so I used it on PS Store, XMB and on a video, is it any different from games (what a dumb question, I know)?

Interesting, but we are not fans of golf here (it isn't a popular sport here in Brazil lol). I bought Sports Champions, we are going to play Volleyball and Table Tennis a lot. My father used to play Volleyball semi-professional and I just love to play it IRL.

Thank you for the video, anyway.

Sports Champions:

Disc Golf: Probably takes the most time to get used to and good at, but it's pretty rewarding.

Cool disc physics. Gets hard on the gold level.

85%

Gladiator Duel: Even though I played this up to the gold level I don't seem to be really good at it yet.

Enemies get tough later on. The only game where I prefer to play with two move controllers at the same time. This game can be a good workout and make u sweaty even.

70%

Archery:

I seem to be good at this since I didn't even have a problem with the Championship cup.

It's just fun to aim and shoot. Also like the challenge mode.

80%

Volleyball:

This isn't very hard and a bit simple against the CPU. Seems to be more fun if played with a friend (haven't tried that out yet)

70%

Bocce:

Interesting addition. Cool how u can add spin. Better played against a friend as opposed to the mindless CPU.

75%

Table Tennis:

The best sports. Very accurate racket movements. Can get very fast and u actually have to move around a lot.

90%

Overall: 85%

(^_^)v

Looking forward to: FF Versus XIII / LBP2 / The Last Guardian / Yakuza 4 / ICO Collection

Yeah, I know, I need a TV upgrade but I don't see that happening this year with all the gaming stuff I bought already...
