Forums - Sony - FFXII is bar none the greatest Final Fantasy ever

FFXII was a good rpg, but not a good Final Fanasy(much the same way WA4 is not a good Wild Arms)

One thing I will say about both XII and XIII so far, is that they are both by the far hardest Final Fantasy games since the Super Nintendo, and even those 16 bit games probably seemed a lot harder then just on account of the fact that I was ten years old. I like a good challenge, and I'm glad Square Enix seems to have really addressed the complaints the series was getting a few years ago that the games were just getting easier and easier.

And I'd like to play the International version of the game, but I don't know if I'd just be in love with it. My characters are always highly specialized, but not necessarily in the way the job system would allow.

Everyone would like to play an international version of their game.

The thing is the new stuff doesn't last all that long, and when it's all been explored, it feels underwhelming. I've never had an International game, but I would imagine that's what it's like.

Unless this is like 10X better than the original.

All I know is that Balthier was a complete badass and Penelo was an intriguing character. Princess Ashe kicked ass too. I don't think it's my "favorite" but that doesn't mean it was great. I will say that the ending and the final battle pissed me off more than any other game ever and made me quit.

The FFVII you played WAS the international version. So was your version of X.

Original VII didn't have Emerald or Ruby and some other stuff. Original X had no Dark Aeons.

International version of XII had a complete overhaul of the Liscence system. Add several new weapons and a damage limit that goes way past 100.000 for completists (like me) and you got ourself a whole new experience.

I know I had "International" FF7. That's what my thinking came from. If Emerald or Ruby wasn't in it, it would be like "So what?" It doesn't really change the game.

I didn't have International FFX. Don't you know NA NEVER gets good stuff from SE. Sure there was Emerald and Ruby, but SE decided to release the REAL international version with the bosses for Japan. They never give NA such kindness.

In NA FFX, there's no damn Dark Aeons. No Expert sphere grid either. No Break HP limit, ribbons, that good stuff. Bullshit, it's so incredibly easy to localize I'm at a loss for words.

@FFXII International

So, you can go past 100,000 damage? Is that it? What do you mean by overhaul?

That sounds incredible.  One of my biggest annoyances with XII was that the level up system was once again extremely easy to powergame and break, just like FFX.

Holy shit, I eat my words. I'm looking up the FFXII Int. version and it seems incredible.

Holy damn. That's the best int. version of a game I've ever seen.
