Forums - Sony - Sony move an open thought and other things

Like many of you I have read about the sony move and have a general idea about what it is. It is hard not to think of it as a copy cat of the wii and with natal coming out at the same time it could look old pretty quickly, not because it is in any way inferior but because that's how i feel the general public might see it. The wii has been a run away success this generation helped with it's innovation and low price point and with nearly 70million consoles out there surely most people who like motion control probably have a wii. This leads to the issue of why would someone want to purchase a ps3 for motion control if they already have a wii?

Well the reason would be because the move is much more than a wii, the added bonus of a camera means there is more possibilities. The recent tech demos have shown that the move can near enough do what natal can do in terms of body tracking etc however the move is fundamentally a more better build. If you want to have a motion control game with hd graphics and effects you need solid controls. Now its hard to compare two products against each other if they are not even out yet but early reports suggest natal is laggy and is causing developers a headache. The principle of natal sounds awesome, imagine a game based on heroes were you could play as sylar throwing people around a room with your hands. At this time however the tech just isn't ready. From what I can conclude you're more likely to get a solid hd motion control game with a ps3. It of course boils down to the developers as to how good the games turns out but give them the right tools and it will show.

The other hurdle for sony is pricing, being the technically most advanced console comes at a cost, even if you work it out to be better value most people wont bother or a miss led. If sony really want to attract the casual market away from nintendo there will have to be another price cut or a tempting bundle when move is released. However when I think about it sony has played it safe and maybe too cautious/late /slow etc but come fall the console really will be able to do everything and everything well.

These are thoughts based on what i've read and no i haven't bothered to evidence everything because it's a mixture of different people's opinions

The move starter kit is comprised of a game, controller and the camera. This is supposed to be for under 100, the camera alone is 40 so how is the pricing a problem? I am so tired of seeing that statement.

I for the most part agree, The PS3 will give players the best o f both worlds, There will now be a console that has a bluray player, standard hard drive  built in WIFI, everything charges, no batteries , Web browser, PS home, DVD player, Dolby Digital, a camera for video messages and games, a standard controller, and now PS move a motion controller. How about that, That is a lot of puch for a few hundred bucks, Sony has had a shortage of PS3 because they are re working the 120gig slim , they will now be making a profit, and a nice one, Wii motion plus controllers alone are very expensive, If you already have a PS3, you can get the starter package with a game, camera and PS move , all for under 100 dollars, not bad. Best of all PS move has much more capabilities for this gen and next with having a camera, And players have the best of both worlds in one console. That is OSSUM,l

Word from some developers at the GDC is that Natal is proving a bit more problematic than previously thought... we'll see.
I think Sony's Move is a bit more feasible; for one it mimics Nintendo's Wii-mote so much, that cross-platform developing becomes possible (very good for developers), and secondly, having a tactile controller in your hands will prove more successful for most games.

Right? I thought the same thing...

Open thought is like being able to think "Those people who have posted in this thread are like blended turtles. You always get the shells in your teeth when you drink them" copying other people is still copying other people.

Either:

A. Sony copied, with their Mii too wand and upchuck.

B. Sony did not copy the basic concept of the Wiimote almost to the letter.

What they were thinking in their heads, nomatter how wierd it might be is not dictated by Nintendo or anyone else.

Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?

i was gonna buy a wii to try the motion controller, but now the ps3 wil have that, so theres no reason for me to waste money on a wii, i dont like nintendo games

I think the PS Move is a good move by Sony. All this copying talk is BS.
MS made billions by copying everyone else so why can't Sony.

BMW didn't invent the car, neither did Ford, Toyota or Mercedes.

Don't get me wrong, Nintendo is awesome and gets my deepest respect for what they have done with the wii and what went before.

This like all other businesses is about making money. Innovation makes money and copying the innovators makes money. That's a fact.

The wiimote has been a success so why not copy it.
If natal is successful sony will copy that too.

The whole point is to keep your options open. "Controller free gaming" gives you less options.

Natal (if done right) is far more impressive IMO than the PS Move and I give MS credit for that.

The good news for Sony fans is that they can copy that too.

The "it only does everything" slogan will be complete when PS3 can do everything that the other consoles can.
