Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft controller-free experiences are the future of gaming!

Controller free is the future of gaming? Unlikely. Is it the future of perhaps media interface on TV? Maybe?! LOL.

But strictly speaking I guess hes right in that only Natal makes you the controller. Thats pretty lame, I mean jumping onto the tracks is the only way to be run over by a train and killed.

Not necessarily.  The train could also derail and hit you.  You could be pushed in front of it instead of jumping on them.  Your car maybe could stall.

I like his list of innovatoins. Lol

I can see this concept in the future, but I'm not so sure it will be pulled off the way NATAL expects it to. We'll see. Right now I do prefer the idea of still having a controller, like Nintendo and Sony are doing.

We'll see.

Corner cases! I predict you'll use some other corner case like a nose picking game which can only be done with Natal. But Total recall proves you WRONG!

Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?

amazing how fanboys can suddenly be neutral-lovers when reading an enemy PR

i guess there is non such thing as a collective intelligence

Hmm let’s see.

What do you think of Sony’s MOVE system in comparison to Natal?

Xbox 360 has a strong history of innovation. Halo, Xbox LIVE and instant-on 1080p HD- halo innovative, hmm seems like your regular fps to me but that down to are opinions.  1080p is rarely used by any console.

Only “Project Natal” makes YOU the controller (as only Xbox 360 can do)
oh what was the eye toy, ps eye.  Clearly hasn’t watched too many of the move video’s either. The boxing one has YOU moving to dodge the opponents attack.

What do you think caused the sales jump for Xbox 360 in February?

industry leading online experiences over Xbox LIVE sounds like an opinion to me.

Do you think games like God Of War 3 can be done on the 360?
Just look at titles like Final Fantasy XIII, Forza Motorsport 3, Gears 2, and Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox 360?
Comparison have the ps3 version of ff13 being better. mentioning Alan Wake would have been better.

correct me if I am wrong
stop me if I am bias
I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).

you should have said in the title that it was AG PR talk ...

Time to Work !

Yea, it's the far far future of gaming, VR. For now I'll stick with fun games with controllers.

Sony has had controller free gaming for years with the PS Eye. To be frank it kind of sucks. There are very few things you can do without any kind of meaningful input. You at least need a keyboard, a mouse, some button or something to be able to indicate complex actions you can't just act out.

I have a feeling Natal will end up a lot like the PS Eye with most of the games relegated to novelty games where you interact with the screen to do things like swat away bugs or balls and match on screen prompts. It's very hard to see how you control something like God of War on Natal, even most shooters seem like they'd have to be on rails with no controller input and you'd still need a replica gun or something.

You can't compair Natal with the PS Eye, that is like comparing 2D gaming with 3D gaming. Many things that were impossible when we only had 2D gaming became possible with the introduction of 3D gaming. Natal will be able to do far more then the PS Eye but that doesn't mean it will succeed ofcourse.

As for genres like FPS and Action games, I think it can be done on Natal but not as a simply port. You can controle a 3D invironment with your hands but less accurate so FPS on Natal would have to have a strong auto-aim and perhaps even semi-auto movement. But at the same time Natal could add new interesting gamerplay through dodging bullets with.. well.. your own body. It would be a different experience but not necesarilly an easy casual experience, although I imagine some gamers wont reach the physical requirement to play Natal's hardcore games on a pro level.

As for the Microsoft guy, he's holding a PR-talk to the max but that doesnt mean all of it is a lie.

You can talk down not yet released technology but calling Halo a regular FPS is just wrong. Without Halo console gaming would have looked compleetly different. They set the standard of FPS on consoles, that brought PC's biggest genre to the consoles and soon it became common to release PC titles on PS2 and xbox aswell. And not just FPS but other genres aswell, right now titles are build for consoles and the PC comes second. Halo innovated console gaming, and if you dont believe that then atleast acknowledge that Halo's contribution to the FPS genre because that can't be denied.

I'm not sure about the FUTURE of gaming, but I do think it's going to be an increasingly important aspect of it.
