Forums - Sony - PlayStation Move will offer limited four player support

So you do your research, you read up on everything important about the PS3's new Move controller, and you consider yourself well prepared for a future of wild merrymaking and multiplayer gaming parties. And then you find out you can't use four full sets of controllers with your console. As it turns out, the PS3's Bluetooth module is only fit to address up to seven wireless devices at a time, which poses something of a puzzler when you consider that you need a pair of Move controllers (or a Move plus a sub-controller) to get your money's worth and four times two is, well, a number greater than seven. Perturbed by this, Gizmodo contacted Sony for an official response and the news gets even worse: "Four PlayStation Move controllers can connect to a PS3 at one time (or two PlayStation Move Controllers and 2 PlayStation Move sub-controllers)." That basically means you can have the full Move experience with only one friend, or you can share out the wands and have that tiny bit less fun with a quartet. Not a problem for the misanthropes out there -- or most people really -- but an important limitation to be aware of, nonetheless. http://engadget.com/2010/03/12/playstation-move-will-offer-limited-four-player-support/

that's grand...

there was a reason for the nunchuck not to be wireless...

anyways no one should own 4 controlers... friends can bring their own.

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

For the Move coming out 4 years after the Wii, it sure doesn't seem to be superior to the Wiimote.

thats what i was going to say. probably explains why the nunchuck has a cord.

Luckly the Move is easily turned horizontal like the wii mote so we can play 4 player splitscreen Mod Nation Racer with tha Move as steering wheels... >_>

OK,

I m realizing that most people only play at "2 players" simultaneously.
Playing the Wii, I have never played 4 guys on the same time.

This.

Imagine 3 people wanting to gladiator battle in coop. Where would they fit, since all 3 would like to wildly swing their arms around? How would the PS EYE keep track of them? Or the "sensor bar" for that matter, on the Wii?

The sensor bar on the Wii doesn't keep track of anything, it is the Wiimote that contains the camera and keeps track - the (misleadingly named) sensor bar contains the reference points... So there is no problem keeping track of 4 players.

As to most people (at least those who own a Wii) only playing at 2 players, I rather doubt that, especially in the case of games like NSMBWii.

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Anticipating: Xenoblade, The Last Story, Mario Kart 7, Rayman Origins, Zelda SS, Crush3D, Tales of the Abyss 3DS, MGS:Snake Eater 3DS, RE:Revelations, Time Travellers, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Luigi's Mansion 2, MH TriG, DQ Monsters, Heroes of Ruin

^Indeed. Still, you can use 4 wands (or 4 DS3) at the same time.
The worst limitation is only 2 players with dual controllers each.
But, speaking practically, after four years of Wii games, how many of them allow more than 2 people, each using wiimote and nunchuk? I bet that's a very scarce number.

ya know, I knew they could only handle 7 devices (8 in a bluetooth group, the PS3 is 1), but then I thought they must have put 2 modules in there.... obviously I was wrong.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
