Forums - Gaming - Why are gaming companies so intent on making games for Iphone/Ipod touch?

The games are cheap to make. The most expensive Iphone game have cost less than 1% of the most expensive game ever. It's just an estimation, but I assure you, it is many, many times cheaper to make these games.

Because idiots will pay over the odds for a crap game that provides them with 10 minutes of enjoyment and probably took the developers about as long to produce?

Actually theres some goood games for ipod/iphone.. i can tell it almost has the same graphics of a psp game.... *almost*... the games are interactive.... and fun because u can get them and play them everywhere you want on your PHONE... (good graphics games on your phone, thats sounds great doesnt it?)

i had a psp and got bored of it and sold it..... really its not worth it.. u have to pay 30-40 bucks for 1 game... but u can get bunch of GOOD games with 5-10 on your iphone (even though i get them free :D , JAILBREAK FTW!)

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Because the iPhone is the second best gaming platform (sorry PSP, but you kind of suck. Better luck next time!) available on the market.

1 question: Who doesn't want Doom, Wolfenstein 3d, Final Fantasy 1+2, all on their phone? Not only that, but it has the greatest game of all time, Tetris.

It's my understanding that with the current development tools, porting to a new platform is quite easy and doesn't cost that much. Why not make an extra buck with quick ports of well known IPs.

Does anyone know of any exclusives for the iphone/ipod from one of the biggies? I mean actually spend time to come up with a new idea and money to develop a unique game.

Smaller studios are taking a larger risk but there games don't cost that much and quite a few of them are worth more than the selling price.

Depends on how you define 'biggie'. Console-based publishers have done mostly ports. However, you have a lot of 'biggie' mobile developers putting out unique content to the iPhone that are high-end titles.

Yes I was talking about the Console / PC based publishers who are mostly looking to make a quickbuck. I have a lot of respect for the "Smaller" developers that are bringing out very high quality original games. I'm worried though that the flood of cheap well known ports is going to drive them out of business.
