Forums - General - Serj Tankian - Elect the Dead Symphony

For those of you who don't know him, Serj Tankian is best known as the lead singer of System of a Down. In 2008, he released a solo album called "Elect the Dead".

Later on, he was contacted by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and together, they recreated his entire album to be played by the 70-person strong APO with Serj on the vocals, and in 2009, they showed the fruits of their labor with a concert in Auckland.

Today is the day the DVD and CD releases, and once I have the cash, I'm getting one, because the version of "Empty Walls" that Serj gave as a taster on youtube, continues to blow my mind. No music speaks to me in the manner that music with a grand feel to it does.

I'm in love.

Cool now do that to Chop Suey.

It's brilliant, Serj has a powerful voice and very very unique. I would love to see more mashups like this from other metal guys (and gals), who tend to have very strong and underutilized vocal talents.

ITS OUT NOW?!!?!

I have to get this tomorrow!

I'm liking the sound. It would've been nice if they had kept in the electric guitar, though, kinda like Metallica's S&M project:

ah cant wait to hear the orchestrated version of 'Unthinking Majority' and 'Saving Us'

great songs

@ MM

In a way, yes. But on the other hand, I think this provides a totally different feel, and it's one I very much like. But that version of "Of Wolf and Man" is pretty awesome still.

@ O-D-C

You get a highfive for being awesome! *highfive*

@ CommonMan

Indeed. I love this kind of thing, and I would love to see more of it. It's the reason why I love both Rammstein and Kamelot, as they use orchestra music and quires too, again giving the music the added depth and feeling of grandness that I love so much.

This song loses all meaning with out the kids imo.

Bump for epicness

just bought the album, Im half way through it and...

its ok

some of the songs are butchered, Lie Lie Lie = WTF!

but others like Baby are AMAZING
