again, if you have the console to run them (1/2/3) : buy and play them

if you dont, then MGS4, that a strongly driven game, will be disapointing

I dont even understand how someone could play the whole MGS4 with interest if he didnt know what happened in the past ...

I never played any other MGS so I read about them but I was confused like hell,
Played MGS4 and now i've completed the game about 15 times and I LITTERARLY Jizz and cry (awesome huh?) at the SAME MTHA FKIN TIME.

MGS4 is the best game this generation, coming from a guy who played MGS1 and MGS2 a few months AFTER he completed MGS4 for the 10th time. I still gotta play MGS3 though. But you will understand most of it and you will understand that the game is reaching it's end and that Snake has gone through so much, regardless if you played the other games or not. YOU WILL CRY MAN :')!

Game of the gen, go buy NOW.

imo you dont need to play the others to understand 4, 4 is still an amazing game that needs to be played by every ps3 owner, you would get the BEST experience if you play the others, but there is no need to go through the trouble imo

MGS4 has been THE best game I've ever played. I play games for the gaming experience and no other game so far has given me a richer and masterful gaming experience than MGS4. And this immense eperience would've not had been felt if I hadn't played the previous MGS titles. MGS is on of those rare series where the story is quite complex and so compelling and each numbered MGS title truly makes gamers go 'WOW..." And if this is not enough to convince you, IGN over the past years has given the following scores:

MGS PS1 - 9.9
MGS 2 PS2 - 9.8
MGS 3 PS2 - 9.7
MGS 4 PS3 - 10

And each game has sold at least 3 mil +.

It's a truly compelling and brilliant series created by a person who is considered a legend in the gaming industry, Hideo Kojima, and the series will blow you away.

My passion for Metal Gear Solid will never die even if Kojima stops making MGS titles. The Legend of Metal Gear Solid is SOLID :D

I've played first MGS4 before even knowing anything about the MGS series, than I went back and replayed all other games and became a huge fan. If you are not dumb, you can follow the subtext just fine and use your imagination so in the end, the story does make a general sense.
