Forums - General - Alice in Wonderland BEATS Avatar in Opening Weekend!! (WOW)

The movie was kinda boring. The children in the theater seemed to enjoy it. The Hatter and The Red Queen characters are the only saving grace. For those who haven't seen it save yourself the money and rent it.

It's not that great actually, Avatar had a very mediocre opening. Alice in wonderland will probably make around 600 million, won't beat The Dark Knight though. You wanna see some big openings look at movies like Harry Potter or Spider-Man.

Are you guys serious?

Gilgamesh, Alice in Wonderland had a better opening weekend than ALL Harry Potter movies...

And movies are not like video games. It will do much more than 600 million.

I don't know if you guys are making jokes, hating the movie for whatever reason or y'all just cuckoos...

Look at the facts. The movie, for his genre, is doing more than awesome and no one expected such huge numbers.

....uhh you really should take a look at this website. Trust me I follow movie numbers just as much as I do VG Chartz numbers I know what I'm talking about when I said 600 million.

Here's a list of all time opening weekends, Alice is at 14th place.

Yeah, let's only count Domestic gross for no good reason.

That makes perfect sense.

I really enjoyed the movie. Of course, I am a fan of Tim Burton's movies as well.

Edit: Worldwide openings are really hard to gauge based on different release schedules in different countries. You would have to compare opening in each country vs each other that takes quite a bit of work.

It wouldn't have been as bad if you didn't put Avatar in the title. Yes, Alice had a great opening weekend, but Avatar had legs. This won't. I haven't seen it yet, but the reviews are less then positive, average at best, and I heard the 3D wasn't anything inventive, like in Avatar. It's just stuff flying at you.

EDIT: Alice had more hype than Avatar, but Alice is more frontloaded, therefore will drop like a dead bat at the box office very soon. Avatar stayed at #1 domestically for seven weekends in a row. Let's see if Alice can do that.

What do you mean it wouldn't have been as bad?

I don't know why but every article I read on movie websites are only mentionning domestic gross and that's what boxofficemojo is taking into consideration.

No, I'm not going to deal with it just because you like this movie (which is given away by your avatar, by the way), and refuse to accept facts. A lot of articles only focus on domestic gross for a variety of reasons, but that doesn't make it the right thing to do. A lot of articles only post videogames sales from NPD, but are those the only sales that matter? For example, Gears Of War 2 opened to higher numbers than New Super Mario Bros. Wii in America, but worldwide, NSMB Wii took the crown. Adding to that, NSMB Wii has now sold much more due to longer legs and broader appeal.

I'm gonna stop ragging on you, but still, stop clinging to this achievement. It's your own fault for bringing up Avatar.

?

It was not a fault to bring Avatar...

It's a fact! Alice in Wonderland really did beat Avatar's first week in domestic gross. I mean you're the one not looking at the facts.

And if you want to tell your opinion to more people you can do it here:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/forums/viewtopic.htm?t=83645&sid=937c608c1a2b35898bffaa5ced457808

They will most likely bring you down though.

And I don't know why people are bringing worldwide numbers...that's not the subject of the thread.

You didn't like the movie...no wonder it's not a big deal for you.

Please let me appreciate this achievement. I've been hyping this movie for quite a while now and I don't want to see these kinds of posts anymore. They don't bring much to the discussion.
