Forums - General - Alice in Wonderland BEATS Avatar in Opening Weekend!! (WOW)

Recent Tim Burton movies are making me rage. Hated Coraline and Alice was the biggest dissapointment in recent movies. I kept waiting for it to get good but it never happened. I'm going back to see it in Imax 3d because I saw it in 2d. Realistically though if I need to see a movie in 3d for it to be good it probably isn't good to begin with.

Avatar raised the bar for movies and Alice in Wonderland lost the Wonderland feel with this one. When I was young I felt like I was lost in the rabbit hole with Alice and had no idea what would happen next. It lost the magic from the first one and didn't add anything new to set it apart. It was a shameless movie to get money.

Coraline is not by Tim Burton...

Ugh. I don't know why, but I am filled with rage. And it's not because Avatar was beaten.

Disney + Tim Burton + Johnny Depp + Scary cat = Win!!

Wouldn't a more accurate equation be

Disney + Tim Burton + Johnny Depp = large opening weekend ?

It's a formula for successful hype, but now the movie has to carry on it's own. And judging by the reviews, it should see a pretty big drop off. It just doesn't seem like a very good movie. I might not find out myself until it comes out on rental. I just can't get over the disappointment of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I love Depp and I LOVE Burton, but Chocolate factory failed to entertain me in the slightest. And Alice in Wonderland looks to be more like that than any of the other films the two have made together.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Saw it, was disappointed by it. Pretty though...

At least Christopher Lee was in it.

Oh, and Tim... the creature is called the Jabberwock. Not the Jabberwocky (that's the name of the actual poem...).

johnny's in it, nuff' said.

It wouldn't have been as bad if you didn't put Avatar in the title. Yes, Alice had a great opening weekend, but Avatar had legs. This won't. I haven't seen it yet, but the reviews are less then positive, average at best, and I heard the 3D wasn't anything inventive, like in Avatar. It's just stuff flying at you.

EDIT: Alice had more hype than Avatar, but Alice is more frontloaded, therefore will drop like a dead bat at the box office very soon. Avatar stayed at #1 domestically for seven weekends in a row. Let's see if Alice can do that.

nice ima just about to see it tomorrow

Ok movie at best. Alice was crap, and the white queen was terrible. Hatter and Red queen were good though.

It'll be a lot more front loaded, though. Avatar wasn't the highest opening around for a big film, funnily enough.

Nice statistic for Alice though. I'll be seeing it this coming weekend, and am looking forward to some more vintage Burton dark fun.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

meh after avatar lost the oscar i knew this will happen.
Dammmmmm youuu oscarrrr scummmmmm
