Some might recall last week that I was just a few levels away from getting my first platinum in Dragon Age: Origins.

The day before I was due to get the last level, the last trophy and the plat, EA/Bioware FINALLY release the PS3 patch!

excellent! i thought. and installed it.

well F me sideways, the friggin patch added almost TEN new trophies to the total! ALL OF WHICH ARE FOR DLC NOT YET EVEN RELEASED!!!

I amost cried.

but anyway i thought, WTF. might as well get the mage lvl 20 trophy anyway.

Well, lo and behold, when I got the trophy, I got the plat anyway!

I wet myself in celebration.

Has this happened to anyone here before when their platinum hopes were dashed by a patch only to be pleasantly surprised when the plat popped up in spite of extra unobtained (or currently unobtainable) trophies?

GZ, I think you can always get the platinum without DLC trophies

I didn't know that - I was under the impression you needed ALL the other trophies for a plat - usually the blurb says something along the lines of "have obtained all bronze silver and gold trophies in the game" so I assumed that was the case.

yea the plat has nothing to do with dlc trophies, you only need the ones that came with the game

happened to me with ummm...hmm now I forget.

I earned the Platinum for RE5 with the Versus already installed and without getting any of it's trophies. My guess is that DLC trophies are not required for the Platinum. If there are exceptios please let me know.

Dragon Age's trophy list will be huge by the time they're done with all the DLC. It's quite a task.

That is why I prefer trophies to achievements, I still get recognition for getting all the trophies that I can, even if I haven't paid for the DLC.
