What does 70 MB do? thats too low. (i thought its 700 MB).
btw it doesn't take space so why delete it?

It's RAM, not HDD space. 70MB's a lot on the PS3, it has only 256MB in total.

Anyway, there's always going to be a OS of some sort, even if it's not accessible in-game.

i know its RAM but it still doesn't do much.

70MB out of 512 is quite substantial. It means that at launch the PS3 developers could count on 512-120= 392MB, and today they can count on 462MB. That's a 18% increase, meaning that a lot more can be accessed from memory instead of being streamed from the HDD etc.

PS: what's with all the harsh replies, guys? If someone posts a wrong number let's just correct it for the sake of correct information. No need to be rude.

Its not the wrong numbers its that the whole basis of the thread is out to lunch.
Then throw in the BS like

PS3 has 256Mb of ram
Other OS uses ram when not in use
70 MB of ram isnt much

Stealth troll thread? or joke, im not sure which yet

Oh, come on... before circling the wagons let's just presume someone misunderstood a news report or mistyped a number or didn't know the exact one. It's not like the whole world is out to troll the PS3 or its owners.
We can make these forums a friendlier place.
Peace, and a toast to 18% bigger titans in GoWIII :)

I never used the feature but why should I have it removed? It was there when I got the machine and I want it to stay there.

The question is to choose between freeing 50 MB or keeping the other OS feature.

50MB is quite irrelevant (at least the way I see it). Unless I can be given concrete ways in which this can improve my PS3 experience, then I'd rather have the OS option (even though it's unlikely that I'd go for it).

Ok thats alright, I understand your point, but I wasnt sure if you understood the premise of the OP.

Last I heard, every MB to a dev counts.

OT: No. It doesn't take up any ram if you're not using it. If you're using it, you're not playing a game. I don't see the point.

Ive just read all post, why being agressive with the OP? Its an honest mistake, theres way to tell him hes wrong without insulting him and his thread. Thanks for your comprehension!

You REALLY have no freaking idea wtf your talking about. The Other OS has nothing to do with the ram gained over all the XMB usage decreases.

Thats right, Its NOT THE OTHER OS, its the footprint that the CROSS MEDIA BAR USES. Why not redo this thread asking for the remove of the XMB, oh wait, thats right, remove the XMB, NO PS3 FEATURES WOULD WORK EXCEPT GAMING.

The OtherOS uses ram allowed by Sony when its started, it has nothing to do with memory usage at all.

/thread

thank you.. though I think that's a little harsh at the OP though.

it's all about reduction of the xmb footprint. which is quite a diet it went on. wow. I got to say that's one of the cool thing's reduction in it's footprint is pretty D@MN good.
