I found Dragon quest 8 very balanced. I felt that it added new aspects to the game just when it needed it and the difficulty felt right for me.

I would like to say Dragon Quest VIII as well, but there's a few points in the game (the fight with Dhoulmagus and Empreya specifically) where the difficulty spikes considerably.  Or, as many people like to say, 'you have to grind'.  Though good Dragon Quest players realize you don't have to 'grind' to beat those bosses.  Just improve your gear and strategy in beating them and if necessary, level a couple levels.  But most people get stuck on those two bosses becuase they come up so quickly right after areas of the game that don't require you to increase your gear/level.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

GTA:SA.

BEST GAME THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN. YOU get a TASTE OF EVERYTHING.

Don't deny it.

If talking difficulty I would say no to that, the missions were up and down all over the place in difficulty terms.

Also: Vice City >>> GTA 3 >>>>>> San Andreas

Don't deny it.

Demon's Souls

It's balanced they way I want it to be.

4 ≈ One

Chrono Trigger: was balanced and had great gameplay

Earthbound & Mother 3: Had awesome battle sistem, and the difficult was all around and progressive

On a couple of the very end levels yes I did (or anytime when the army got involved), but just because the first levels are the easiest and last are the hardest doesn't mean the middle levels follow a nice linear progression.

Story wise most definately.

Gameplay wise still a yes, San Andreas provided more stuff to do and a huge world to mess about in, but it doesn't play as well as Vice City.

Deny it and Tommi Vercetti will come round to your house with a horses head.
