Its better to have a super polished single level, than a buggy beta or slowly degrading experience.

This. If that level is sufficiently good then I'll want to buy the rest of the game. If not, then I won't. No other method would make me more likely to buy.

Any demo which contains the full game then degrades it is pretty soon going to get cracks that remove the effect. Then a pirate wouldn't even have to download the game before cracking it.

Theres already a couple of games on PSN or XBL that you download the full game, but need the 1K key file for it to work into a full game. I have never heard of anyone able to crack those, did you? If your thinking of craking it through a change in time related to license, PS3 has prove a couple days ago that messing with time will simply void license. That said, Im not sure that this idea is good or not tho, as you and others said a good demo will already do the trick.

Around the Network

I think that it's a fine idea, and that practically it will probably be implemented by giving things like online versus and then taking these out after a certain date.

This could mean that we might be paying for online versus eventually.

That is a interesting yet potentially bad idea. Most users won't understand the degrading effect and might just attribute it to a bad quality game. A demo is supposed to be a true representation of what to expect if you buy the game; thus I'd expect the game to get worse as you play on.

Its better to have a super polished single level, than a buggy beta or slowly degrading experience.

The fact that it's degradable and what that meant to the player would obviously need to be explained to the player at the start of the demo...
