Personally I prefer GamesTM over Edge, not entirely sure why but Edge have always seemed a little too harsh. Occassionally, you'll read a review that won't say anything overly negative and it'll receive a 5, yet another game will have huge flaws pointed out and get a 9.
I guess this whole reviewing thing is simply a matter of opinion. Although in Final Fantasy XIII's case I have the suspicion that scores are being coloured by nostalgia for the older titles. Most reviewers and gamers grew up with Final Fantasy being the way it was and don't want it to change. I wonder if you took Final Fantasy out of the title and it was some generic JRPG, would we be seeing the same hullabaloo?
Who knows? Anyway, it's all opinion. I mean Gamesradar gave it a 10/10 and I never saw THAT coming. I think they also summed up my feelings with a "GET OVER IT" attitude with regards to the linearity. They saw it as a natural consequence of the game's story. You are a bunch of rebels on the run, why would you go wandering around a town walking into people's houses?
I'm buying it day one on the PS3 (not because the Xbox 360 is actually significantly worse because I don't buy that BS, but because that's my natural FF habitat) and I'm going to see how enjoyable it is.
