Forums - Gaming - Forget 7 - EDGE given FFXIII a 5!

Personally I prefer GamesTM over Edge, not entirely sure why but Edge have always seemed a little too harsh. Occassionally, you'll read a review that won't say anything overly negative and it'll receive a 5, yet another game will have huge flaws pointed out and get a 9.

I guess this whole reviewing thing is simply a matter of opinion. Although in Final Fantasy XIII's case I have the suspicion that scores are being coloured by nostalgia for the older titles. Most reviewers and gamers grew up with Final Fantasy being the way it was and don't want it to change. I wonder if you took Final Fantasy out of the title and it was some generic JRPG, would we be seeing the same hullabaloo?

Who knows? Anyway, it's all opinion. I mean Gamesradar gave it a 10/10 and I never saw THAT coming. I think they also summed up my feelings with a "GET OVER IT" attitude with regards to the linearity. They saw it as a natural consequence of the game's story. You are a bunch of rebels on the run, why would you go wandering around a town walking into people's houses?

I'm buying it day one on the PS3 (not because the Xbox 360 is actually significantly worse because I don't buy that BS, but because that's my natural FF habitat) and I'm going to see how enjoyable it is.

It's one person's opinion. Just like all reviews. Take it or leave it.

The most trusted reviewer out there! They dont give 9/10's to every hyped game.

only some!  which is where all the trouble starts of course.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I'm glad I read the Edge review. I had slightly considered investigating the purchase of this game. Hearing that the first 20 hours are easily linear kills it for me. I can't buy a game that I feel I'm trudging through just to get to the "fun parts." Maybe a rent. Or a gamestop $10 game at the end of the year.

Since when did "linear" become a synonym for "boring" or "not fun"? Some of the best games ever made are totally and utterly linear.

I saw this coming a mile away. No way was this ever a 10 mil seller (which SE has said they want to achieve) or a AAA title.

I was going to buy this game close to release. But now since everytime I try to buy something thats worth any decent amount my card gets frozen I havent been able to buy games I thought I was going to before this launched. Those games will be above ff13 on the list now.
