Forums - Microsoft - Gamersyde: Alan Wake technically at the front, 360 and PS3. Preview.

Here is the excerpt from the preview.

"Alan Wake astonished us from its production to the atmosphere that's been created, but above and beyond all, its technical mastery. Remedy used to be known for its top-notch rendering engines, and they prove again they are worthy of their fame. To be clear, none of the existing Xbox 360 games even compares to it, and even on PS3, which have more real exclusive titles, it's hard to find an equivalent. Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Crysis, these are the few games which can compete with it. Whether it's the real-time projected shadows produced by the essential flashlight (those were obviously missing in Condemned 1 & 2), the total absence of aliasing (720p 4x FSAA), the breathtaking realistic lighting effects, the huge size of certain levels, SSAO, the atmospheric effects, the humongous size of some moving objects, the vegetation which interacts with characters and wind, or the largely satisfying framerate (with a light tearing that should disappear in the retail version) and many other physical and graphical effects, Alan Wake never ceases to amaze you with relative ease.

This technical mastery leaves us deploring Microsoft's choice not to favor more real exclusive titles for its console, as it shows how powerful the Xbox 360 is and how poor multiplatforms engines can be. But let's stop moaning and let's appreciate this one as it's not only a technical performance but it also comes with an excellent production."

This game will definitely be no less than amazing when it is released. Can't wait until I get a chance to play this game. It looks astonishing so far.

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

Um hell yeah. I posted my very own article about the Unreal Engine Effect about 5 days ago. Funny how previews of Alan Wake start coming and they basically say what I said. In fact for years I have said the 360 could easily do anything the PS3 can if it had specially designed engines.

You agree that there is nothing on the 360 right now that can compete with the PS3 games until Alan Wake comes, right?

There's only one issue.

I am not impressed, A flashlight as the main weapon does nothing for me I could be the best looking game in the world, which its not, but the story is lame

I actually just read this preview and came here to see if selnor had posted it yet or not ;).

I'm liking what I've read from the preview. Beautiful graphics and production values are all fine and dandy, but the fact that all of it is being used to engage the player in extremely thick atmosphere and intriguing plot is what has this game on my radar. I hope future previews and reviews are as positive. It would be a shame for games that are outside of the regular box (i.e. This and heavy rain) to be brushed under the rug. Gladly heavy rain was very well received. Sucks that I haven't had the chance to start playing it yet due to school.

I really agree with this part "This technical mastery leaves us deploring Microsoft's choice not to favor more real exclusive titles for its console"

As much as I love Unreal 3, and I really do, come on MS! They should buy up Infinity Ward, they know how to make an engine that runs on the 360.

OT: Wow! So this one might actually be as good as Selnor is saying? That would be something. Just put down my preorder today!

Personally, like some reviewers to. Mass Effect 2 was at the front. Or at least on par with PS3. Maybe not technically speaking, but however Bioware achieved it they made it look the best. But Wake looks another level. Hell they use Crysis in the comparison. It's now a case of U2, KZ2 Crysis competeing with AW. Something tells me Alan Wake will get the graphics of the Year awards this year.

Where you here last week? Because we were talking about a small game that looks destroyed Uncharted 2 in visuals, just killed it. I hope Alan can beat 2009 best, but we are in 2010 now, there are new games to deal with, check out march 16th.
